The Martins, a family well-known in town for its overachiever members and their overwhelming success, gather to celebrate Thanksgiving for the first time after three years. Since the family is incomplete without its youngest member, Mason, upon arrival to the Martins' house, Rylie -the rebel middle child- lashes out against her mother, accusing her of breaking her promise of having a family reunion. Trying to keep the family together while fulfilling her promises, Carol decides to pay a visit to her estranged son, who has been left out of the family since he was diagnosed with early schizophrenia. The fractured family is forced to face its prejudices when Carol comes home for dinner with a 'special' plus one: Mason.
