From clergymen to cabinet secretaries, academics to ambassadors, the village of Northeast Harbor, Maine, is a long established 'summer colony' where some of America's most prominent families have maintained seasonal homes for generations. But increasingly Northeast Harbor finds itself a victim of its own success; with a still-rising property base of more than $800 million, the village's once thriving community of year-round residents is finding itself more and more marginalized by the 'summer people', as rising real estate prices and declining opportunities for year-round employment push more and more year-rounders out of the community. Directed by a native son of Northeast Harbor, 'Summer Colony' is an examination of the village's history and social dynamics aimed at explaining how this situation came to pass.

A journey through the twentieth century history of Mount Desert Island, Maine, as told entirely through the home movies of the people who have lived, worked and summered there.

For a full year Dale has been living on his friend Kirk's couch, unable to either move out or move on from the devastating break-up that put him there. On the anniversary of his friend's arrival Kirk decides that enough is enough. In an effort to get Dale out he proposes that the two discuss the situation by role playing as the other person. Drama, hilarity and finally closure follow as the two men are afforded the opportunity to see the situation through the eyes of the other.

Set to music, "Mount Desert Memories" is a compilation of vintage home movie footage from Mount Desert Island, Maine, including footage of both summertime and winter life on MDI, Acadia National Park, and U.S. Navy visits to Bar Harbor.
