- Dr. Daniel Pierce is a neuroscience professor with a deep knowledge of human behavior. He's also a paranoid schizophrenic who struggles with hallucinations. Daniel helps his former student, FBI agent Kate Moretti, as a consultant.
- Richard and Zedd get an idea of how Richard can control the power of Orden. But Darken Rahl has captured Jennsen and cursed her village. And she threw the Box of Orden to the bottom of a lake before being captured.
- When Cara reveals to the group that all the Confessors are dead, and that she personally killed Kahlan's sister Denee, Kahlan attempts to kill her. Under Richard's orders, Cara flees returning to her hometown. She is captured and held prisoner by the townspeople, and the Mother Confessor is forced to execute Cara.

But Daniel thinks that the doctors misdiagnosed her and that she can help them. Problem is that she thinks it's 26 years ago and that she's still a teen.
- Pierce tries to crack a coded message left in a newspaper.
- Kate wants to impress a new boss and asks Dan to evaluate a young man who's been accused of stalking a federal judge. The judge earlier remanded the young man for treatment as a schizophrenic. When Daniel evaluates the kid as harmless only to have the judge stabbed to death hours later, Kate is told to leave the case alone but Daniel is convinced that the kid is not responsible.
