Dr. Daniel Pierce is a neuroscience professor with a deep knowledge of human behavior. He's also a paranoid schizophrenic who struggles with hallucinations. Daniel helps his former student, FBI agent Kate Moretti, as a consultant.

Richard arrives at the Palace of the Prophets to begin his wizard training. He meets the beautiful and mysterious Sister Nicci who tells him that the other sisters are lying to him. Not knowing who to trust, Richard is forced into a dark alliance with Nicci while Kahlan, Zedd and Cara find and name a new Seeker in Richard's absence.

When Sister Nicci casts a powerful spell on Kahlan, linking their fates, Richard is forced to protect the evil sorceress while Kahlan has to confront her past in an attempt to break the spell.

Cara, Zedd and Richard get comical make-overs in an entertaining bid to save Kahlan from an egotistical King, who has converted all of his subjects, including his wife, to his own personal vision of "all that is Right and Good".

Zedd attempts to reverse the insidious dark magic Darken Rahl used to make Cara betray her friends, but the wizard's powerful spell instead drastically alters the lives of Richard, Kahlan and everyone else.

The FBI is trying to find a serial killer who was last active 26 years who appears to be active again. One of his victims from 26 years ago was so traumatized that she was placed in a psych ward. But Daniel thinks that the doctors misdiagnosed her and that she can help them. Problem is that she thinks it's 26 years ago and that she's still a teen.

Pierce tries to crack a coded message left in a newspaper.

Kate wants to impress a new boss and asks Dan to evaluate a young man who's been accused of stalking a federal judge. The judge earlier remanded the young man for treatment as a schizophrenic. When Daniel evaluates the kid as harmless only to have the judge stabbed to death hours later, Kate is told to leave the case alone but Daniel is convinced that the kid is not responsible.

A young man in a cult claims to be hearing the word of God.

Moretti and Pierce investigate the murder of a college student.

Moretti learns there may be some truth to Pierce's conspiracy theory.

Pierce is tipped off about a conspiracy to cover the murder of a Senator.

He can't remember his life prior to an injury he suffered in the Iraq War, so he's searching for clues about his true identity with the help of CIA agent Nina Brenner. Meanwhile, in 2001, FBI agent Curtis Ballard and his Czech Police partner, Gabi Miskova, launch an investigation into a Russian gangster named Dimitry.
