- Mohan is a young man who lives with his widowed mother, is in love with a young woman named Shyama, and both would like to get married. Unfortunately, before that could happen, Shyama is shot dead, the police get involved, an eye-witness named Bindiya names Mohan as the killer, as such Mohan is arrested, tried in Court, found guilty and sentenced to be hanged. The only one who believes in Mohan's innocence is his mother, Gangadevi. She advertises in the newspapers offering a reward of Rs.10,000/- to whoever can prove her son innocent, asking readers to direct their responses to Post Box 999. No one ever responds, until after 5 years when a Reporter, Vikas, of "Prakash" publications comes across the ad and decides to prove Mohan innocent. Assisting him are Gangadevi and a young woman named Nilima, eventually both Nilima and Vikas fall in love. Their investigation take them to a variety of people, including Banarsilal, Bindiya who witnessed the killing, and a killer named Shamsher Singh, who abducts Nilima. Now Vikas has only one day to prove Mohan's innocence, and he must use it to either do that or save Nilima from Shamsher's clutches.
- Widower Ramesh lives a comfortable lifestyle with his daughter, Kala, but is advised to re-marry so that Kala can get the love and caring of a mother, so he re-marries Jamuna. But Kala hates Jamuna and will not even call her "Maa", but Jamuna continues to strive to care and love her as her own, despite of giving birth to a baby boy. Years pass by, Kala has now grown up, is in love with Ramesh's business partner, Bholanath's son, Shyam, who are of a different caste. Ramesh disapproves, but Jamuna convinces him otherwise, and the couple get formerly engaged. After the engagement, Ramesh gets to meet multi-millionaire Badriprasad, who accumulated wealth through the stock exchange. Ramesh takes a interest and invests heavily, he does win some money, but his luck soon changes when he loses everything. He is on the verge of bankruptcy, and the only man who can save him now is Badriprasad on one condition - that Kala must marry his son, Pritam. Will Ramesh agree to this trade, and break Kala's heart and her engagement with Shyam?
- Chanda lives a wealthy lifestyle in Jaipur along with her father, Thakur Dharam Singh, and mom. Since she is of marriageable age, her dad wants her to get married to a wealthy male of his choice, but she dislikes him. Arguments ensue at home and her dad slaps her, she falls down and passes out. When she regains her senses she finds herself in a hospital in Bombay with her dad at her bedside, who tells her that she was unconscious for 3 days, apologizes and promises never to pressurize her to get married. She forgives him and they return home. A few days later she gets a visitor, a male Akashwani singer by the name of Raj Kumar, who claims to be her husband, calls her by the name of Rekha, and wants her to accompany him back to Bombay where he lives in a Chawl along with a two-bit Bollywood actor, Bansi. The question remains who is this male, and why is he claiming to be Chanda's husband?
