- A fully automated commercial jetliner is prepared to make its maiden voyage. Without an on-flight pilot, the craft relies on satellite linking for its course. But when the plane suddenly deviates from its determined route and establishes a circular pattern over Seattle, it becomes evident that the craft has been hijacked by a disgruntled former airline employee who has hacked into the flight's computer system from his apartment, somewhere in the United States. Now, a former discredited Navy pilot and an oddball technician must race against the clock to find where the angry employee is, and regain control of the plane before it crashes into the city.
- Riley Davis and Cliff Davis are Seattle police detectives - Riley in narcotics, Cliff recently promoted into the detective ranks in homicide - and estranged brothers. The estrangement is due to a former case gone wrong that involved both and their police officer father. The brothers end up working together again on a case, that of murdered model Mark Pearson, the brother of Riley's fiancée, Kenzie Pearson, also a model who works for the same agency. Before Mark died, he mysteriously left for Riley a camera with only one shot taken on the roll of film in it. Riley, after developing the film, finds blurry, indistinguishable images on that photograph. He is certain that those images or the camera itself have something to do with the murder. The case takes on new dimensions when Kenzie is kidnapped. Cliff and the rest of the police force's prime goal is to determine the motive for the murder and thus catch the murderer, while Riley's is to get Kenzie back alive and safe. The process of working on the case will either bring the brothers closer together, or drive a wedge further between, the result possibly tied to what ultimately happens to Kenzie.
- Over a year after bit actress Liz Woodward leaves him at the altar, comedy writer Gene Maxwell is still having trouble dealing with the situation and his life. Writing "Fear Knot", a novel about letting go of one's fears to be able to tie the knot, which he obviously wrote for Liz but which she has yet to read, probably didn't help. Unexpectedly, Liz, who he has not seen since that day, returns with an unusual request: help her father, Malcolm Woodward, move from his dingy basement suite into an apartment, as she has a movie assignment in Prague during when he has to move. After initially feeling the request unreasonable considering the circumstances, Gene agrees on what he considers compassionate grounds for Malcolm. Through it all, Gene has to deal with: what he thinks Liz's return means, which he, deep in his heart, hopes is a reconciliation; the advice of his overbearing parents, George and Gisha, and of his best friend, dance instructor Herbert; and cantankerous ex-pat Brit Malcolm himself, who initially does not want Gene around, but who ends up relying and confiding in the one person who is there for him during his own time of need, especially as he deals with a secret he does not want Liz of all people to know.
- After the suicide of a snowboarder friend, his brother, Brandon, takes the depressed Nelson Nagarauk home to their tradition-conscious Inuit family at 69 degrees north. Brandon persuades him to accompany him on a ice-bear hunt, but Nelson changes his mind. On his way back, he finds a half-frozen Russian woman from a nearby weather station. He warms her up, but she seems to be very sick, otherwise. The next day, the woman is taken away by helicopter without a word of thanks. Later, on TV, a different, healthy woman is shown. What really happened? With Nelson's help, the ambitious journalist Virginia Ranks starts an investigation in which Nelson is not only confronted with a military intrigue but also with his traditional roots that he ridiculed before.
