Barto has more pressing study occupations for about eight years. Elisa proves less tidy then unamused bachelor boy Mikey; Jack suggests a chores list; Elisa complains to Jill that Mikey eats much of her food and is a culinary ignoramus. Jack reads in Jill's diary; Barto isn't prepared to break the boys' code by keeping quiet about it. Dan promises Audrey a great career, but in L.A. Barto's professor Dr. Madison says he has a shot at a priceless research fellowship at Dukes in North Carolina if his grades keep up, according to Mikey three months separation is reason enough to break up with Audrey. Jack spoils Jill in bed and then asks him right there about his ex Becky Heart, he guesses she read his journal, he walks out, she gives him her diary before her move to New York, he's not really interested in that girlish stuff. Elisa calls a forum, Mikey was about to too, but to no avail; he suggests advertising for a housekeeper at $45 a week, candidates prove weirdos, except- his ex Belinda. Barto and Audrey expect each-other to move after the good results they expect. Jack 'proves being wild' by suggesting to have sex on a train, then returns Jill's key 'until I earn it'. Barto and his study mate Anna aced their exams, Audrey gets the movie part.

After a visit from his mother, Jack decides he's worth planning a third time for, and even accepts his proposal to get married the very next day, without the frills, but in city hall he realizes that doesn't work: they end up calling off the ceremony indefinitely to save the steady relationship from serious shaking. Seeing how her stalker shook Audrey's self-confidence to be alone, gentleman Barto spends some nights with her, only to hear she would want to get him back, while he is still committed to Emily... [Despite the open ending, there is no subsequent series].
- Challenged by Barto to try a steady relationship, Mikey dates clumsy ex-bar colleague Belinda to that goal, gets in her bed easily but really falls at first sight for her roommate, Lucy. Elisa and Jonathon double-date with his friends. After Jill tells Matt how Jack belongs with him, she's furious to hear about his claim on her, yet she kisses him and Jill pulls back; both boys leave her the choice. Then Matt turns down a dream-job in Washington for her; her asking Matt to move in blows Jill away, but when she tells Matt about the kiss he walks straight way; Elisa tells Jill to hang on with Jack. Just when Matt returns, willing to take her word, dream prince Jill drives on, not on a white horse but in a horse-drawn carriage, to sweep her away if she accepts...
- Matt doesn't even wait for Jack's answer and takes the Washington job offer, so Jill's horse-carriage carries her away for hot kisses in the cold winter night, to a roof greenhouse where they make love, and hours of kissing in his place, till Mikey walks in on them doing it on the kitchen floor, shortly followed by Barto; neither minds, nor Elisa who covered for Jack arriving four hours late, but she dares not take a second to take Jill's calls, which seems to confirm love Dr. Mikey's warning that will scare her off, so he cancels that night out. Belinda commends Mikey's domestic skills, but he enjoys another point in common with her roommate Lucy: Keanu movies. Audrey insists to spend Valentine's day at a swing joint, Barto's utter nightmare, yet he cheerfully practices with his anatomy skeleton; she won't cancel or see a doctor after hurting her ankle in dance class, till it gets bad enough to scare her. Elisa insists to Jonathan it's a fake commercial holiday, not worth any present, but the true romantic gets round that. Mikey hates Valentine's-day, not easy for a barman, and Belinda insists he drops by afterward for her surprise gift, which is surprisingly perfect...
- In bed with Matt, Jack dreams of Jill kissing her by surprise. A loose door knob gets Jack and Jill locked up in the laundry room on Saturday evening; she panics and over-organizes, he proves practical and optimistic enough to get her laughing and even a bit spontaneous, which she tries with Matt too once they are found: cab driver Yuri may choose their destination. Elisa decides to look for her mystery man by personal ad, then reads out to Jack one which fits them, for a meeting at 9; at the last minute she hails a cab to shy away, but the driver is him: Jonathon (she still doesn't know Appel), who takes her to his romantic other job, singer-guitarist in a bar; at her place they kiss; finding he sneaked out of her bed in the morning, she's insulted. Barto commutes between med-school and bed with Audrey, who overhears on his answering machine his mother inquiring whether he brings his girlfriend to a family dinner, which Audrey finds worrying but Barto explains to the boys is to spare her the Zanes' rejection Mikey still remembers, yet she makes him take her. The parental 'apartment' is a floor-wide city palace with original art and staff, the ideal decor for sneers, looking down on a plebeian dropout from a broken marriage; afterward Audrey reproaches the poor boy, who tried politely, not to speak up firmly for either of them; he buys it, she promises to win them over.
- Although their wedding will be on a moored sail yacht, Jack stresses about all possible seasickness etc. precautions. First the couple prepares her first birthday together. To her surprise the cool St. Regis hotel suite reservation is not made by Jill but her ex Matt, whom she quickly tells off; meanwhile David waited in vain for her at home, the mood is ruined, so he catches up the next day at the TV studio, but is jealous when he reads Matt's poetically perfect invitation; Jill's non-refundable surprise weekend proves incompatible with her job, but in the end thoughtful packing makes all the difference. Even though he should be studying anyhow the mention of sports makes Barto support Mikey's proposal to replace the broken TV with a flat-screen monster, Elisa feels outvoted; when Mikey pushes for computer hardware too, she refuses and even insists to downgrade the TV, instead the boys pay its separately, leading to a childish don't use my stuff-period. Audrey finds her roommate Russell James consoling his crying ex Kate on the couch, with her suitcase being thrown out, but decrees no sex with him meanwhile, while actually feeling rather jealous, so she tells Kate; seeing how upset he is when Kate moves out, Audrey temporarily leaves herself rather then get serious with him, so Barto has no privacy at all with Emily.
- Father Conlin cancels their church reservation because the happy couple missed most of his marriage counseling sessions. Jack panics, Jill calls it an opportunity to look for a creative alternative; they make lists and have a common winner: sailing on the Bahamas; then Jack remembers her ma will have a fit if it's not a Catholic church, but ma's episcopal contact already overruled the parish priest... Audrey is nearly out of her Svengali savings, so she tries Barto's suggestion to give private dance lessons to rich Jewish families' boys preparing for a bar mitzvah; her nerdy first teenager client Adam Fickman is at an age when any female body her age looks irresistible, but although smart and sensitive never had any success with girls; she finds it hard to handle his hormones, eager showing her off to his peers and freaks out after a single hand-move on her rear, but father Andy Fickman implores her to help make Adam reconsider having no bar mitzvah at all and Barto makes clear no 13 year -old can be expected to remain a rational gentleman facing such temptation barely at arms-length, so they become 'just' friends. Emily surprises Barto by asking him to go ice-skating, and being about to start med studies herself, at NYU. When she gives notice, the managers not only have to look for a replacement, Mikey believes he can go out with her again, and invokes the Code of Dating they wrote in sixth grade to defend his first claim, Barto says adult relationships are beyond the high school code, but Emily has the last word regardless of their bickering. In the end Jack and Jill realize a marriage requires both partners to compromise, not always him letting her have her way as for any aspect of the interior of what was his flat, and they finally decide where to wed.
- While Jill watches amazed and amused how obsessively she packs, Jack tells him she has a near-ex Sean, who works in an L.A. studio; Mikey calls Sean her would have-could have-should have, Elisa her almost-guy. Jill has a pre-wedding-attack of feeling surrounded by attractive women other then his fiancée, such as stewardesses. In an interview, Audrey and her co-star Kyle Statton paint each-other as arrogant, yet they land in bed for real. When Barto's parents drop by to summon him for a family function, Mikey immediately tests Dr. Jonas Zane's willingness to become his co-investor now he wants to buy to At-bar, but is called a worse investment risk then flushing money down the toilet, so Barto coaches him to prepare a bank loan application. While she unpacks just as pointlessly elaborately, Jill learns Jack phoned Sean for lunch within 15 minutes after arrival, and braves the temptation rubbing suntan-lotion into attractive beach bunny backs. A 'best friend' invitation decides Barto to join Mikey on the flight to Svengali's L.A. premiere, while Elisa, who has an absurd flying-phobia, meets and falls for witty psychiatrist Peter McCray. Kyle is the only one who actually enjoys the premiere reception, after Barto saw him cuddle Audrey, yet she refuses to keep in touch. Back home, Mikey's loan application is refused, despite the banker's positive response.
- A phone call for 'Jaqueline' informs Jill Jack never told her parents about him, but expects them and his widowed ma for the weekend. Barto desperately tries to avoid Audrey, but can't escape the publicity for her movie Svengali, yet she still has the gall to blame him for not being more understanding; still he ends up offering to be friends again. Having heard hunk Marco thank Mickey for matching him with Gigi, Elisa insists he finds her a gay, but TV-geek Ken is hardly what she hoped for. Jack's pa Paul, a publisher, proves an insufferable ass, who even suggests Jill should fool around 'better now then later', yet she insists he must take her family as a package, till she learns the truth at the formal engagement party her parents insisted to throw for them.
- Jill decides Jack should decide alone on their new place to live together, but getting it proves even harder then choosing. Mikey, who still wants to buy the At-bar, is interested to learn Jill's photography-client Dante is a self-made major investor in all kinds of enterprises. Audrey's agent Dan warns her she must make contacts before her movie is old news, which proves to be very soon. Med student Barto is on a mission, playing a gastric patient with a bowl obstruction, but since that's too easy to experience the patient's perception, Madison changes his 'disease' to lymphoma cancer, treatment discomforts guaranteed. Elisa brings her shrink Peter to the studio, but he always seems to be analyzing; she's only happy when he accidentally proves not to know her too well. Dante decides the bar is a good investment, but only if Jill co-manages it with too insecure 'Michael'; when Jill doesn't want that, Mikey sneers he has no more trust in his friend then Dante. Barto solves the flat problem by moving to a flat closer to his college.

The new network official Kristen Moss announces big changes as they get bad ratings; Jack tries out as newsreader, and is angry to hear Elise does too on Peter's advice. Audrey auditions prospective roommates, wanting a girl or a gay, but goes for stand up-comedian Russell James when she hears he has a girl-friend, but only after he moves in learns the pair already was broken up, so they start on the wrong foot, and again. Sandy's serial dating is hell on Barto, who agreed to an open relationship but is truly monogamous by nature; Mikey expertly coaches him in picking up casual dates. Nasty twists all-around at the end...
- [without the beginning] Barto was grumbling in line for a chick-movie Audrey made him go see, when Samuel collapses; it's already too late for his heart-massage to save the kid's life. Mikey is a bit offended when Jonathon asks if he never 'did something' with Elisa, even recently, Elisa when he says to trust her but not womanizer Mikey with her in bathrobe. Jack is encouraged by the girls to pose nude for Penthouse in order to help launch Jill's new career as photographer. Barto gets delusions practice corps Bernie talks to him, everywhere, about becoming and being a doctor; it takes Audrey and Dr. Zane Sr. to make him gather enough courage not to drop out. Jack can barely lose her robe without wine, let alone pose properly with, but Jill's teacher Reiner Schöne likes the result '90 Seconds Nude' enough to suggest Jerry Filbert's gallery to exhibit the series, a shock for Jack who wasn't even consulted, but ends up approving just when he was about to cancel the opening; to their surprise, they all sold instantly -even though sales weren't authorized- to a plastic surgeon. Jonathon's attitude brings the roommates closer together and his demand that one of them should move out makes Elisa break up.
- When Jill becomes the next victim of colleague Stan, who takes credit for his brilliant technical idea, Mikey suggests using the boxing ring the At-bar just installed for 'office fighting'. Jill asks 'dumped' Jack if Matt is a good kisser. Matt asks Jack out, she agrees: to Audrey's preview Friday-night. The others are there too; Barto's repeated apologies are accepted with a smile now Travis is history. Elisa is struck on the street by a glance exchanged with hunky Jonathon Appel whom she doesn't now yet. Matt and Jack kiss. In the morning, Barto finds Audrey outdoors in pajamas, waiting for the newspaper review- the musical is a hit. Stan accepts to box, but has his own gloves- Barto and Mikey help intimidated Jill train his arse off. Jack considers it Cro-Magnon but perfect for TV, and may cover it with Matt; Jill won't hear of camera's, so Stan becomes the hero. Audrey was dressed up to celebrate with Barto, but takes a rain-check when theatrical agent Roger Wyman invites her; Barto thinks the dress was to impress Roger; in the morning he invites her for the At-bar fight, which is hosted by Mikey. Elisa is exited to see Jonathan arrive there, but can't find him. Stan cancels with alleged flu, but Matt's offer to stand is is a least as acceptable to star feature challenger David 'Messenger of death' Jillefski. Matt is knocked KO: Jack must go live instead in only five minutes, and proves a hit- like Jack's fist hit good loser Matt a black eye. Barto drops by at Audrey's to tell her he's no longer scared, can't be scared off and is confident nothing scares her more then a serious love.
- When Audrey replies to Jack's detailed 7 months-plan after her break-up with Danny it takes a fling to lose her 'last date virginity', Jack calls whistling construction workers' bluff to public acclaim. After two years steady with Elisa, Jill wants to dive in bachelor dating again; Mikey points out his black book is almost as lame as Barto's, so they plan a party and invite Elisa, expecting her to decline, Jack and Audrey. On Saturday the apartment fills easily, including Elisa, but conversations range from uneasy to awkward or even threats. While Mikey worries someone may touch his bottle of 50-years old tequila, Barto's med school adviser Nick Seraph, a reputed dating-shark, snaps up Jack in a minute, but even her fastest rate bores him soon, to Jill's relief. Barto is ecstatic when Audrey wants to see him alone, till she bares- an infected bellybutton, for free medical advice...
- In the library, Jill bumps into Laurie Tindell, the dream girl he never really knew in high school, and immediately gets a date. Audrey panics when the director decides she must sing a solo, while she can't even read from a music sheet, gets faked support from Jack and blows it completely, unable to utter a syllable; by comparison with a failed exam of his, her silent admirer Barto encourages her to hang on, and it works. After an outburst from Elisa, Jack goes to Jill, but finds him in underwear with his date; only after Eliza saw him with Jack too, Laurie tells him she's married...
- With great effort from the boys and pointless pooha from the girls, Barto moves out of Jill's apartment and Jack in. Barto hoped to avoid needless hassle by not telling his parents he's having sex with Sarah Weyman, whom he once met trough their match-making attempts, but when both sets of parents await them in the restaurant, her ma's nagging about a hickey makes her blurt out it's from Barto, and boy does he get pressured as he feared, as if they expect a wedding date, precisely what puts him off after his Audrey-trauma; he finds she also dates studly architect Patrick, so they decide to keep going out, nothing serious. Everybody is at the @-bar for Mikey's managerial take over-party. When he boasts in the morning the new office's comfy chair fits two, him and waitress Emily Cantor, to mate and business-partner Jill, who feels financier Dante breathing down his neck, Jill insists now they're bosses that's illegal; the love-birds decide to continue their intimacy after-hours elsewhere, Jill tells her that's still against policy, Mikey resists 'you're not my boss', but now it feels awkward for her anyway. Elisa learns presenting her boy-friends to the others is not always best, especially her shrink Peter McCray to neurotic Jack, who feels analyzed and nearly committed by him. After an overdose of Jack, Audrey is really ready to live alone.
- Mikey feels ready for a pseudo-girlfriend: more then a one-night-stand, but not told she's not (yet?) a real one and often not exclusive- as Jack may be to Matt; now Jack worries Matt never introduces her as his girlfriend. Jill gets served a lawsuit for causing adulterous ex-high school-flame Laurie Tindell to break matrimony with Michel Preston, actually one date and one night; lawyer Gavola tells him judge Reeves should throw the case out easily, but she was dumped herself; plaintiff's lawyer Allison Hanau is hot in Jill's eyes, but turns his affirmation not even to have known about Tindell's marriage into 'guilt' by deliberately not asking for the sake of his fantasy, he dumps Gavola but finds another too expensive and decides to defend himself. Elisa's mystery dream-date is on a tape, renting a video. Now colleague-barman Tad has quit, Mikey is promoted manager: bye-bye day off, tons to learn; as if the 'weight of too many keys' wasn't crushing enough, he must fire waitress Belinda. Audrey worries Barto is off cramming for an exam with a certain Meg, even spies on his study group- Jack notices her reign as queen of indifference is over. Matt invites Jack for home-cooking, according to Elisa the last step before sex; he cooks and kisses well, but her irritating questions make him bring her home early, yet the next day he asks her out again soon. As Barto is occupied studying, Mikey is Jill's character witness, but messes up even the line they obviously rehearsed, and apparently caused his bank clerk Cindy's impending divorce. When Jack breaks off with Matt as she can't handle an on-off relation his style after seeing his breakfast date, he replies that was to dump the other woman and become exclusively hers and kisses her in plain office sight; this time she 'stays for breakfast'. Jill's closing statement is sorry someone gets hurt and the marriage killed, but taking a risk for a shot at lifelong happiness is the right choice. Having fired Belinda, Mikey throws back managing 'not much' in the bosses own words. Elisa and 'him' see each-other trough the bus window, but she cannot get off.
