A young man named Akiyama Tokuzo cannot find his passion for living. One day he tasted meat cutlet for the first time and have been absorbed to learn about Western style cuisine. He set out on a journey to Tokyo and sworn to be the greatest cook in the empire of Japan.

Sumire, a young girl living in Tokyo spends her nights entertaining men for money. Tokyo has a long history of 'Kyabakura', private clubs where women are paid to talk to wealthy and lonely businessmen. Sumire must navigate her feelings of loneliness and self-worth, whilst living and working in a city that is at once overly populated yet incredibly isolating.
