Stock and Salamon have been partners for a while now. Their cabaret performance is a great success night after night. Being broadcasted on TV at New Years Eve is very important for both of them, too. Finally they can sing their song for the whole country: Nobody can do it alone.

Based on the novel by Mór Jókai, the film revolves around several decades of life of a noble family Karpati, during the first half of the XVIII century.

A young peasant girl wants to marry her love, but due to the pressure of her parents she ends up with a wealthier man. Their real hardships begin when they escape together from her wedding.

The film consists of three short stories by Dezsö Kosztolányi.

Viktor Pálos spent 22 months prison. After his release he moves to his mother's brother's house in the countryside. But his past follows him here, too. When a robbery occurs in the village, he is the first suspect. Viktor almost collapses under the lawlessness, when he finds a true partner.
