- Three prisoners are discharged from jail: Stefano Luprandi, a surgeon accused of murdering a patient by doing an unauthorized surgery, Giuseppe Rasi, unjustly processed for robbery, and Franco Cesari, a thief. Once released, Stefano loses all confidence in himself: despite the support of his loving wife, he wants to leave her. But then his wife suffers a serious car accident and he must save her and regains confidence in life. Giuseppe, who has always declared he is innocent, is released early for good behavior, but finds misunderstanding everywhere. A young nurse comes to the rescue and with her love and confidence saves him from depression. Francos destiny wont be as happy as the other two when he tries to recover the gold he stole.
- A group of religious fanatics in India, the Tughs, prey upon Europeans and natives alike, capturing and offering them up in sacrifice to their frightful goddess, Kali. The Governor of the Province sends Tremal Naik, a famous Indian hunter,on an expedition to end the savagery. He is accompanied by Major Kennedy and Major Maffertis, the latter with a personal reason for wanting to destroy the Tughs and their sinister leader, Siodana. Maffertis, once stationed in the district with his family, is certain that his small daughter was a victim of the cult, but he has no proof and has not heard anything of her since her disappearance years ago. Tremal also has his own troupe made up of his faithful companions Kammamuri, Aghur and Urti, and his famed tiger Darma. Later, Tremal sees and falls in love with the white girl the Tughs hold captive, but she begs him to forget her and warns him of the danger to both of them if he tries to penetrate the mystery surrounding the large banyan tree where he first saw her. Ignoring the warning when his companion Urti is killed near the tree, Tremal discovers that it is the entrance to the temple where Ada is an unwilling priestess.
- Jacques de Maudy, the son of a sick nobleman, returns to France to try and clear his name from a framed-up crime. He avoids the traps sets for him and, with the aid of an actors' troupe, gathers the evidence against the true guilty party. The governor declares him innocent and his fortune and titles are returned to him.
- A rich merchant, Antonio is depressed for no good reason, until his good friend Bassanio comes to tell him how he's in love with Portia. Portia's father has died and left a very strange will: only the man that picks the correct casket out of three (silver, gold, and lead) can marry her. Bassanio, unfortunately, is strapped for cash with which to go wooing, and Antonio wants to help, so Antonio borrows the money from Shylock, the money-lender. But Shylock has been nursing a grudge against Antonio's insults, and makes unusual terms to the loan. And when Antonio's business fails, those terms threaten his life, and it's up to Bassanio and Portia to save him.
- Siegfried, count of Treves, who has just married Genevieve, the beautiful daughter of the Duke of Brabant, must go to the Crusades. He then decides to leave his dear wife under the protection of Golo, his majordomo. But the latter, having coveted Genevieve in secret, takes advantage of the count being away to make advances to her. Rejected by the chaste lady, Golo falls into a fit of rage and swears revenge. He soon manages to have Genevieve falsely accused of infidelity and the poor woman, although innocent, is condemned to death. Luckily, she is spared by the executioner and hides in a cave with her baby, nourished by a roe. Six years later, Siegfried, who is hunting in this forest, comes across Genevieve and a little boy, who is also his son...
