Upon returning to Wuyue, Qian Hongchu changed his carefree personality and made great strides in the court, eliminating traitors within and suppressing powerful feudal lords outside. He also shouldered the responsibility of the state during times of political turmoil. On the other hand, the northern Zhao Rong inherited the unfinished legacy of Zhao Rong and established the Song Dynasty, launching a southward military campaign. Ultimately, in the face of the unifying trend of the Song Dynasty and the well-being of the common people, Zhao Rong and Qian Hongchu set aside their weapons and completed the historic feat of "returning the land to the Song Dynasty" in the third year of the Taiping Xingguo era (AD 978).
