Car was horrible. Passenger window didn’t work, everything rattled, dirty upon receipt, sunroof broken. Despite having bought an American Express insurance policy for the trip, they forced us to buy an additional $970 worth of insurance. Total rip off, avoid at all cost!
Awful! Tried to upcharge us once we go there and really poor customer service!
Drop off was quick and easy. Pick up took way too long. More than 2 hours is excessive.
Currently disputing their charges. They would not honor our reservation upon arrival, and left us in a position where we had to pay $300 more to get an upgrade for a car because they did not have ours available (and somehow it was our fault?). The car's car play was not really functional, and had service lights on the whole trip, cars are in poor condition. Upon looking at their reviews afterwards, we saw this is a common occurrence and they take advantage of tourists visiting the area. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE and save yourself the stress and issues.
I made a booking through HolidayCars.com. Everything was pre-paid. The problem started when my flight was rescheduled. Instead of arriving at Cancun at 9 pm I arrived at 11 am the following morning. I tried to contact HolidayCars.com and Mex Renta Car via the phone numbers on the voucher. Mex Rental Car was available and told me that I would lose my reservation unless they were notified by HolidayCars.com. HolidayCars.com was not available. Not even at their emergency number and I called Mex Rental Car again. This time I was told there should not be any problem and I should be able to pickup my car at the airport. Arriving at the airport, I was told that my car was no longer available and that there was no other car available. I asked for the supervisor, who was of absolutely no help either. She only repeated that there was no car for me because I was late and didn't inform them. No alternative was offered because they had no cars anymore. The only car available was a minivan at an additional charge of $2000 for a week. She then mentioned that she would not give us a normal car anyway because we were 5 people and that was not allowed. As it became clear that Mex Rental Car was not going to offer any solution, we decided to go to another rental company and got a normal 5 seater car at a reasonable price. HolidayCars.com is refusing to reimburse the prepaid amount because, according to them, I did not inform them of my delay. I understand that I lose my reservation at a no-show, and as a consequence lose the pre-paid amount. Having said that, delays occur from time to time and a reservation should be honored when the rental car company is informed. What I experienced was a complete lack of customer service from both Mex Renta Car and HolidayCars.com.
They charge way too much for a damage deposit so that most people have to get their private car insurance which adds more to the rental cost than the actual rental. When I explained that to the car rental agent, he just smiled and grinned because he knew exactly how the whole scam works. There’s no straight up prices. The only thing they straight up do is scam.
