Gaza Strip
The Gaza Strip is a Palestinian territory bordered by Israel, Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea. It is home to millions of Palestinians and is 25 miles (41km) long and 3.7-7.5 miles (6-12km) wide.
The Gaza Strip was occupied by Israel from 1967 until 2005, when Israeli forces withdrew and implemented a temporary blockade of the area - a blockade which became indefinite when Hamas took control in 2007.
Gaza has been at the heart of the 2023-24 Israel-Hamas war, where a huge death toll has been paired with the internal displacement of more than 85% of Gaza's Palestinians, according to the UN.
