    PREFACE

In a world where many believers struggle with spiritual dryness and a lack of power in their Christian walk, The Baptism into the Holy Spirit seeks to provide answers and solutions rooted in the Word of God. This book was birthed from a deep desire to see believers walk in the fullness of the Holy Spirit, experiencing not just an intellectual understanding of their faith, but a daily, dynamic, and powerful relationship with God.

The doctrine of being baptized into the Holy Spirit is often misunderstood, relegated to the realm of theological debates or emotional experiences. However, in these pages, you will find a clear, Biblical exposition of what it means to be truly baptized into the Holy Spirit, along with practical steps to receive and live out this experience. The journey into the fullness of the Spirit is not reserved for a select few but is the birthright of every thrice-born child of God.

As you read, you will be challenged to confront any impediments that may have hindered your experience of the Holy Spirit’s power. Whether it is unbelief, sin, or simply a lack of understanding, these obstacles can and must be overcome to live the life God intended for you. Through the teaching and testimonies shared in this book, my hope is that you will be stirred to seek God more fervently, to thirst for His presence, and to allow the Holy Spirit to fill and empower you for His service.

This book is not just a theoretical treatise; it is a call to experience. The truths contained within are meant to be lived out, to be tested in the crucible of daily life. I encourage you to approach this book with an open heart and a willing spirit, ready to receive all that God has for you through the baptism into the Holy Spirit. My prayer is that as you do, you will be transformed, ignited with a holy fire, and equipped to fulfill the purpose God has for your life.

    THE FIRST PENTECOST

In water baptism, there is a baptizer. Then there is the one who is being baptized. The one who says. ‘Yes, I have believed in the Lord Jesus Christ now and I want to be baptized.’ There is the baptizer and there is the one who is to be baptized. And then there is the medium in which the person is to be baptized. They don’t baptize in the air. They plunge you right into the water. This is the pattern for all baptisms. All three must be present. There must be a baptizer, there must be the one being baptized, then there must be that with which the person is baptized. We shall start our study by looking at the Lord Jesus who is our supreme example.

As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, ‘This is my Son, whom I love, with him I am well pleased. Matthew 3:16 – 17

The baptism of Jesus was promised. Isaiah 11:1-2 says

A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him-

    And John 1:32–33 says

"Then John gave this testimony: I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit‘.

The baptism of Jesus in the Holy Spirit took place after His baptism with water. The God of heaven could have poured out His Holy Spirit on His Son before the Son was baptized with water, but He did not. He thought that in baptism of His Son with the Holy Spirit, after the Son’s baptism with water, would set the normal and usual way for all other sons whom He would acquire unto Himself through the obedience of the only begotten Son.

    Hebrews 2:10-11 says,

In bringing many sons to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the author of their salvation perfect through suffering. Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers.

So the Son, the only begotten Son, set the pattern for all the other sons whom the father would bring to glory through the obedience of the only begotten Son. The baptism of Jesus in the Holy Spirit is different from being born of the Spirit. The Jordan experience through which Jesus was baptized in the Holy Spirit was quite different from what happened at His birth.

Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit. He possessed the Holy Spirit in all His fullness from the moment He was formed in the womb of Mary. Throughout His life, up to that Jordan experience, He was filled with the Holy Spirit, there was nothing sinful in Him to usurp the place of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit right from the womb. So even before the Jordan experience, He was a spirit-filled man. However, born of the Holy Spirit and filled with the Holy Spirit as He was, He did not dare to start His public ministry without the Holy Spirit coming upon Him in that special way as He did at the Jordan. That Jordan experience was a unique unrepeatable experience for Him. It was a special anointing, it was a special clothing with the Holy Spirit, it was a special clothing with power for the task which God had in mind for Him. The Bible says,

"You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all. You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached – how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how He went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with Him." Acts 10: 36–38

That Jordan experience was a mighty anointing, something different from His being filled with the Holy Spirit. The baptism of Jesus into the Holy Spirit was accompanied by signs that were visible. God had told John that He, God, would have a sign that would confirm to John the fact that Jesus was the baptizer with the Holy Spirit.
