The European Union, its Member States and Europeans across the continent are mobilised in support of people fleeing the war in Ukraine. We are working on all fronts to support Ukraine with assistance, humanitarian aid and civil protection. This specific initiative wants to support researchers of Ukraine by providing them with an overview of all existing actions at European and national levels.

If you do not have a place to stay in Slovenia:
You should apply for temporary protection immediately at the border; the government will then provide you with shelter in one of their facilities while your application is being processed. This will cover your basic housing needs and allow you to move freely within the country (with some restrictions).
General information on government-provided shelter is available here: Ukrainian | Slovenian.
If you have a place to stay in Slovenia:
- If you can stay with friends or relatives, it might be logistically easier for you to apply for temporary protection close to where you are staying.
- Even if you decide not to apply for temporary protection (or asylum), you MUST register your temporary stay at a local police station within 3 days of your arrival. If you are staying in a hotel or similar, the host will automatically do this for you.
If you want to find a private accommodation in Slovenia:
There are a couple of services that can match you with privately provided free accommodation. These two are both pan-european:
- https://www.ukraineshelter.com/ This is a volunteer run site. They will check your request, be in touch with you and try to find a good match.
- https://www.ukrainetakeshelter.com/ This is a pure peer-to-peer site. There are no intermediaries that check the provider of accommodation, so be extra careful to vet the host.
There are many more such sites available, however their coverage of options in Slovenia is generally limited.
If you are looking to rent commercially, here is a helpful video about real estate portals that you can use (in Ukrainian). Also here is an Ukrainian explanation of Slovenian real estate market and its customs. You can also check the Facebook group where a lot of rental properties are posted. The biggest Slovenian real estate site is nepremicnine.net.
Do not worry if you do not have a place to stay. Inform the border authorities that you need help with accommodation and they will arrange for you to stay at one of the locations they have prepared for you.
