After having a freshman campaign as strong as anyone in the conference, Darren Buchanan Jr. showed off why he was deserving of a preseason All A-10 nod going into his sophomore campaign with an all-around 19-point, 10-rebound, 3-steal effort, double-doubling with his game-high in thefts in GW men's basketball's eventual rout against Mercyhurst.

Men’s Basketball Battles but Is Beaten by Loyola Chicago, 81-73

In Loyola Chicago's first-ever visit to D.C. as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference, GW had the storied program down 66-59 with just over five minutes to play. The Ramblers didn't panic though, with George Washington starters Babatunde Akingbola and Darren Buchanan out for the stretch run, and closed the game on a 22-7 run to steal the win, 81-73.

Firebirds Secure Post-Season Hosting Spot after Defeating Dolphins 86-58

The University of the District of Columbia's women's basketball team bounced back into the win column after defeating the College of Staten Island 86-58, Saturday afternoon at the E.B Henderson Sports Complex. The Firebirds improved to 14-12 on the season surpassing their single season wins from last year (13). They also improve to 9-6 in the Conference, securing the fourth place position in the tournament and a guaranteed hosting spot. The Dolphins on the other hand, fell to 9-17 and 5-10 in league standings.

Firebirds Extend Win Streak to Three; Keeps Hosting Dreams Alive

The University of the District of Columbia's men's basketball team defeated the College of Staten Island 80-70, to keep hopes of hosting the conference quarterfinal, alive. They improved their win streak to three, winning the last 7-10 games, and improving their conference record to 9-6. The Dolphins fell to 6-9 in league play and sits at 6th place in the standings.

With the 1993 team that advanced to the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA Tournament in attendance, hopes were high that the current club would find an extra notch of motivation with its own March journey just weeks ahead. To the contrary, it was Duquesne who had all of the juice as the Dukes left D.C. with a 93-67 win.

Bishop scores 27 with seven assists, Colonials improve to 4-2 in A-10

It was a showdown of two of the top candidates for Atlantic 10 Player-of-the-Year on Saturday in a matinee tip in D.C., as the league's top-scoring player in GW's James Bishop IV hosted Dayton's DaRon Holmes II in a nationally-televised affair, and backed by a bevy of buckets from his backcourt buddies, Brendan Adams and Maximus Edwards, Bishop was king of the conference in GW's thorough 76-69 win.

Back at home on Friday night after playing three times zones away in its last three contests, the George Washington women's basketball team quickly adapted back to familiar surroundings and snapped a mini two-game skid with a resounding 74-57 win over the Ohio University Bobcats.

Bishop goes for 21, ties career-best with nine helpers

That's how the official ledger will begin in the history books when Chris Caputo's all-time record as a Head Coach is listed. GW students emptied the residence halls and poured into the Charles E. Smith Center in Foggy Bottom on Monday night as the 2022-23 college hoops season began in earnest. It was the dawn of the Caputo era at GW and the massive student turnout did not leave disappointed. In a wire-to-wire win against visiting Virginia State, Caputo guided his charges and new-look Buff and Blue club to a runaway home win.

Bishop provides team-leading 19, Edwards adds 18

If the unofficial start to the Chris Caputo era for GW men's basketball is any indication, the Buff and Blue can pack some offensive punch. Making the start in their first game experience on the Charles E. Smith Center floor, transfer students Max Edwards and EJ Clark found the iron kind in the cozy venue, as the pair connected on a combined 5-of-9 shooting from long range to spark a GW prolific attack from the home club in the 78-61 rout.

Volleyball lmproves to 5-0 with a Four-Set Win Over Visiting Delaware

Led by graduate student Carlie Fikse and senior Zeynep Uzen, the American University volleyball team won its fifth straight match to open the 2022 season, defeating Delaware in four sets by scores of 25-21, 22-25, 25-19 and 25-22. The Eagles, who will play their next four matches away from home, stand at 5-0 overall while the Blue Hens drop to 1-3.

GW men's basketball will be the No. 7 seed in next week's Atlantic 10 Championship, its highest seed since 2016-17. The Colonials will square off with No. 10 seed Massachusetts at 6 PM on Thursday night at Capital One Arena in Downtown DC.

Men's Basketball Downs Duquesne in 3 OT, 98-93

Bamisile goes for career-high 30 with seven rebounds

It was Senior Night at GW on Wednesday night and an all-senior lineup of Theofanis Stamoulis, Bryan Knapp, Amir Harris, Ricky Lindo Jr. and Miles Gally were on the court for the opening tip. The move paid immediate dividends when Harris found Gally open at the top of the key and the senior walk-on buried the first 3-pointer of his career to put the Buff and Blue up 5-0 early, and the bucket portended a game of thrills from there. More than two-and-a-half hours and 55 minutes of basketball later, GW found its way to a 98-93 3OT win. To get there, it was anything but ordinary.
