A disturbing thrill ride with a flawed, bad ass heroine. This horror read took me by surprise and the audio was absolutely chilling!
Nothing like a book involving killers, gore and supernatural elements! Simply, put Charles Manx in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith with his evil minion Bing kidnapping and transporting unsuspecting children to Christmasland are the stuff of nightmares! Kate Mulgrew is an amazing narrator - she took this book to a whole other level for me with her voices. So damn creepy!
This was my first Joe Hill book and he is every bit a warped thinker as his father the great Stephen King! Everything was so damn creepy, the characters were all so flawed yet you fall for them anyway and you can’t help but get caught up in the fight, rooting for good to overcome evil!
Honestly, this book had a bit of everything - horror, mystery, suspense, supernatural fantasy, a touch or romance (𝘐 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘝𝘪𝘤 & 𝘓𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘥!) and comedy (𝘔𝘢𝘯𝘹 & 𝘉𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘸𝘦𝘳𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘱𝘺 𝘸𝘢𝘺). Vic and Manx were perfect rivals! Hill writes such a great villain in Manx - I actually had nightmares from this book and that doesn’t happen often. Be forewarned, this book has plenty of gore and action - lots of killing and mayhem throughout!

I will never be able to think of this book w/o hearing Kate’s version of Bing saying “Misssterrr Mannnnnx”. - she was so good

I’m partway into season 2 - I really like it too. It’s well cast - Vic, Manx, and Bing are exactly what I pictured as the characters- especially Bing. Zachary Quinto is exceptional as Manx - he’s such an amazing actor in everything though. I don’t know why it rates so low on IMDB.
