World-class cuisine is what Bologna does best. Nowhere in Italy, a country with considerable culinary heritage, is the food considered to be better than in this medieval gem.
Bolognese sauce of course originated here, but to try the real thing look for "ragú" on the menu. Cold meats and cheeses are also exquisite. Make sure you save plenty of time for eating – the Bolognese like to savor their food, so a meal can last for hours.
Many of the best eateries and homemade ice cream shops are found behind the mile upon mile of porticoed streets, now UNESCO World Heritage sites. The complex of medieval churches and buildings in cobbled Piazza Santo Stefano is a tranquil spot to explore. Climb one of the Two Towers nearby (not the one leaning at a startling angle) for spectacular views of this red-roof city.
The focal point of Bologna is huge Piazza Maggiore, whose Santo Petronio church has an unimpressive, half-finished façade that doesn’t prepare you for its sheer scale inside. Fanning out from this square, the buildings of Europe’s oldest university, founded in 1088, are home to the city’s best museums.
Bologna accommodations at Booking.com range from small B&Bs to luxury hotels, all easily accessible from Bologna Airport just outside the city.

What a fascinating city-it offered much more than we expected. We didn't have time to do everything even with 4 days.
The food was fantastic-never had a bad meal. And trains are convenient for doing day trips.

You'll find Bologna's local cuisine one of the best cuisine in Italy where you absolutely have to try the real Tagliatelle al ragu what we commonly know as Tagliatelle Bolognese.

I recently visited Bologna to see a friend who’s on Erasmus, and I absolutely fell in love with the city! It’s gorgeous, full of charm, and so enjoyable to walk around. One of the highlights for me was the sheer number of lovely cafes, bars, and restaurants scattered throughout the city. The food and wine were consistently excellent—every meal felt like a treat. On top of that, I found the people to be very welcoming and helpful, which made the whole experience even better.
Since I was traveling with friends, we made the most of the city’s vibrant nightlife. If going out is your thing, Bologna has a fantastic ambiance in the evenings. The streets are lively with people, but never in an unpleasant or rowdy way, and there’s a great selection of venues to choose from, all at very fair prices. During the day, I especially enjoyed sitting at outdoor terraces, soaking up the sun, and sipping on affordable and delicious wine—it was the perfect way to relax and take in the city’s atmosphere.
Bologna truly has something for everyone, and I’d highly recommend it as a destination, whether you’re there for the food, the culture, or just to enjoy its wonderful vibe!

Bologna is a wonderful city in central Italy.
Bologna is a wonderful city in central Italy. Rich in history and art, it is pleasant to discover on foot as it is quite small. The centre is really characteristic and full of nice shops and restaurants. The best thing is definitely the food, which is full of fantastic and excellent dishes. The nearby towns (Parma,Modena,Forli ecc) are also easily accessible and highly recommended.

The city is dirty, yet it has beautiful buildings.
The city is dirty, yet it has beautiful buildings. We didn't feel safe in the evenings, so we typically explored the city only until about 9 PM. It was an okay experience, but once is enough. If you have the time, I recommend visiting Rimini and San Marino from Bologna.

This was our third stay at Sav Hotel which says it all.It remains one of the best hotels we have stayed at in Italy. The bedrooms are excellent, the aircon is powerful as well as easily adjusted - not something that is always the case especially in 38* heat, breakfast choice first rate and finally / most importantly every member of staff is friendly, efficient and a pleasure to deal with.Everywhere is spotlessly clean too.If you are going to Bologna this the top choice.
A most elegant hotel, în the city centre. I liked the fact that there was no noise surrounding the hotel. The breakfast was diverse, with perfect coffee, fruit, croissant, cereals, etc, whatever you needed. The hotel is spacious, nota your typical small hotel room. The staff was friendly and helpful. My trip to Bologna was the last stay în Italy after Rome and Florence and I was not disappointed.
In a quiet side street but just two minutes' walk from Bologna Central railway station, so very convenient indeed. Spacious and clean.
Met by a helpful and courteous host.
The apartment is part of the Wonderful Italy network, and the company was helpful in giving us directions to the apartment and in offering suggestions for excursions. They are able to arrange these if desired.
Very nice and clean apartment, much bigger space than staying at an hotel room.
It had everything we wanted (living room, dining table, kitchen, WC etc.), plus the bedroom separately overlooking the sitting area, up in an attic.
Extremely centrally located within the historic center of Bologna, walking distance for all main sightseeing monuments.
Highly recommend it!
