Detecting megalithic structures in the Northern Jordanian Plateau: New data from historical satellite imageryThis article examines the archaeological detection strategy undertaken during the TYRAS project-Tell Ya'moun Regional Archaeological Survey-and its suitability for identifying megalithic structures. The study area covers 288 km 2 of the Northern Jordanian Plateau, a geographical region consisting of diverse landscapes of desert, plains and mountains. Our investigation uses an interdisciplinary methodology that combines satellite imagery examination (mainly HEXAGON images), spatial analysis, archaeological fieldwork, and photogrammetric techniques. The image analysis results combined with the terrestrial survey have made it possible to identify new, hitherto unknown megaliths. Eight new megalithic structures spread over four new sites have been discovered, forming groups of associated megaliths or located in isolation, contributing to a better understanding of the megalithic phenomenon of the region and its geostrategic location in the landscape. However, we have also detected some problematic issues that we will explore here, such as the accuracy of our work routine in detecting positive and negative results, together with the need for fieldwork to test such approaches.

Some Notes on the Archeology of the Jewish Catacombs in Villa Torlonia, Rome2023 •
The Jewish exile communities in Rome embraced a unique burial practice, utilizing an underground tunnel system known as catacombs. This distinctive burial system was employed by the Jewish population in Rome between the third and fifth centuries CE. Currently, six Jewish catacombs have been identified, with the most extensive complex situated beneath the gardens of Villa Torlonia, adjacent to Via Nomentana. This catacomb, one of the two accessible Jewish catacombs, exhibits a labyrinthine configuration of rock-hewn corridors (tupah) spanning approximately 900 meters and approximately 4000 burial niches. In the years 2018-2019, a conservation project unfolded as part of a collaboration between Israeli conservator teams and Italian archaeologists. This project, executed with scrupulous adherence to Jewish law, aimed to collect bones from the catacomb floor and return them to the original burial niches. Simultaneously, an extensive documentation and study project was initiated. The outcome of this comprehensive effort yielded significant archaeological and artistic insights, constituting a pivotal contribution to existing knowledge. The study focuses on the Catacomb of Villa Torlonia, analyzing its intricate architectural plan. Additionally, meticulous documentation and cataloging efforts extend to various extant objects on the site, including inscriptions on building materials such as bricks and tiles, some featuring imprints and inscriptions. Furthermore, a thorough examination of the catacomb's decorations revealed a rich array of distinctive Jewish symbols, with some being documented for the first time by our team. This paper aims to provide a detailed exploration of the architectural details of the underground system, offering a new perspective on questions related to its dating.

This paper will discuss the dynamics of anthropization and human settlements in the Salento between the 11 th and 15 th centuries when the area comprising today's provinces of Lecce, Brindisi and Taranto underwent significant transformations and reorganisation, which often, and at times also deeply, redesigned the picture of its rural population. The most complex implications occurred mainly during the second half of the 13 th century, due to the changes brought about by the coexistence and interdependence of two processes, abandonment and new-founding, which have clearly influenced the structure of urban and rural geography of the area. The process of redefining human settlements affected more the northwestern Salento, the area between Taranto, Nardò, Brindisi and Lecce, marked by the conversion to cereal-growing on lands previously used for the cultivation of vines and olives.
