Rio de Janeiro 1992 > UN Year of Indigenous People summit & UN General Assembly 1992 > the CMPCC summit 2010 of Climate Change and Mother Earth's Rights: the long pursuit of Hopi to get their ethnoclimatology investigated. Rio de Janeiro environmental summit became the watershed that brought some of the world's most isolated ethnic communities into the awareness of the environmental degradation, climate change, and global warming. One of these highly isolated communities were the Hopis who are highly revered among the indigenous Americans for their fierce cultural independence and ancient, truly indigenous history-keeping. The National Hopi Grand Council of 1947 appointed His Honourable faith-keeper Thomas Banyacya as the guardian of the nation's history-keeping. The First Nations of the Americas, with a support of the entire patronage of the World Indigenous Peoples summit, appointed HH Thomas Banyacya as the closing speaker to end the United Nations' Year of Indigenous Peoples on 10th December 1992. As soon as the session was over and the lights were turned off from the United Nations' General Assembly Hall, the World Indigenous Peoples' appeal was immediately ignored and forgotten by the United Nations. His Excellency President Evo Morales (an Aymara Indian himself) has carried many reforms to empower indigenous people and invited me to summarise for Conferencia Mundial de los Pueblos sobre el Cambio Climático y los Derechos de la Madre Tierra (the Peoples Climate Change and Mother Earths Rights Summit) CMPCC, at Cochabamba - Tiquipaya, Bolivia in 19-22 April 2010 the merits of the ancient Puebloan ethnoclimatology that formed the core of the UN Assembly Motion. A mistrust, past disappointments, frustration and the residential school experiences, make the spiritual leaders and faith-keepers of the native Americans resentful, presenting a formidable and ihibiting barrier on dissemination of traditional knowledges for the broader public as the native Americans have turned introverted and prefer to view their past only for themselves and keep knowledge within themselves to protect of their innate spirituality and relationship with the outer world. Deep indigenous mistrust is reflected in retention of information and artefacts also from the anthropologists thus hindering access to ancient Sun Ages ethnoclimatology documents.

On Human Rights Day 1992, the United Nations proclaimed an International Year of the World’s Indigenous People. A Decade for Indigenous Peoples was subsequently launched, to run from 1995 to 2004, and a Forum of Indigenous Peoples established. The inaugural meeting of the Forum, held in Geneva in 1996, was unfortunately disrupted by gate-crashers. A self-styled delegation of South African Boers turned up and demanded to be allowed to participate on the grounds that they too were indigenous people. Moreover, they claimed that their traditional culture was under threat from the new African National Congress government. They were unceremoniously ejected, and no doubt their motives were far from pure, but the drama might usefully have drawn attention to the difficulty of defining and identifying “indigenous people.” The loaded terms “native” and “indigenous” are the subject of much debate in activist circles. “Native” still has a colonial ring in many parts of the world, though it has b...
Heritage and Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Patrimonio y Derechos de los Pueblos Indígenas, 2017
The heritage of Indigenous Peoples has long been researched and commented upon from the outside. This book adopts an innovative approach by engaging with the heritage of Indigenous Peoples from the ‘inside’. On 13th September 2007, member states of the United Nations adopted the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), a momentous occasion marking wide political recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ rights. Ten years on, this book explores the areas –both substantive and geographic– dealing with the heritage and rights of Indigenous Peoples globally. Written jointly by indigenous and non-indigenous scholars, the chapters offer an insight into the issues faced by Indigenous Peoples under the umbrella themes of land, spirituality and self-determination. The case studies – which span four continents – not only highlight the various resilient and imaginative ways in which Indigenous Peoples are managing to sustain, develop and transform their heritage, but also offer an insight into the areas where the implementation of UNDRIP is most needed. On the 10th anniversary of UNDRIP, this book therefore serves as a clarion call to states, transnational enterprises and policymakers to act in accordance with the tenets of the UN Declaration and take indigenous perspectives, ontologies and worldviews seriously.
Call for Papers - RSA Conference, Boston, March - 20-22, 2025 Deadline July 28 Antonio Possevino (1533–1611) is one of the most fascinating early modern Jesuits, renowned for his political and diplomatic activities in Central and Eastern Europe and the prolific author of treatises, pamphlets, and commentaries, as well as the Bibliotheca selecta (1583), his encyclopedic masterpiece. Although he is often quoted in recent scholarship and hundreds of articles and books on specific aspects of his life and career have been published, the most recent comprehensive biography written about him dates back to the eighteenth century, a work by the French Jesuit Jean Dorigny. In connection with The Collaborative Possevino Project, a multi-author intellectual biography of Antonio Possevino sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Jesuit Studies, we look for papers that explore different aspects of Possevino, his life, his publications, and his intellectual legacy. PSALMS AS THE HOLY SPIRIT'S GUIDE TO INTIMACY WITH GOD, 2023
Pneumatology has a history since the beginning of the church, but the mystical entity of the Holy Spirit yet to be fully understood. There is a disappointment that the existing literature mainly caters to the theoretical paradigm of the subject leaving a gap in facilitating sufficient understanding of the person of the Holy Spirit and His work that allows an ordinary believer to experience God’s intimacy through dwelling in His presence in their hours of emotional needs. The systematic theological reflection of the person and the work of the Holy Spirit shows that the Holy Spirit plays a crucial role in nurturing intimacy with God which facilitates believers receiving His counseling, comfort, and strength when they are emotionally challenged. The book of Psalms is considered the expression of the emotions and feelings of the psalmists as they are stirred by the thought of God, and directed at Him. We also hear the voice of God in the Psalms which encourage a dialogical relationship with God. This shows the great potential of the Psalms to provide counseling and comfort that provides a means of dealing with extreme human emotions. The exploration of the experiences of the psalmist shows that they were swift to find peace in the presence of God during emotionally challenged times. They refer to the Holy Spirit and the roles He plays in an individual life especially during times of trouble, giving counsel and comforting the victims. They have recorded receiving direction, correction, and strength when they are challenged by all forms of emotions such as fear, persecution, lost sense of self-worth, isolation, guilty consciousness, distanced from God, deprived mind, and thankfulness. Accordingly, in the book of Psalms believers have access to sufficient hymns for inviting and expressing praise to God, prayers that voice the needs in times of trouble, and life-giving instruction especially when they are emotionally challenged.
This paper analyzes the scope of Artificial Intelligence (AI) from the perspective of a multimodal grammar. Its focal point is Generative AI, a technology that puts so-called Large Language Models to work. The first part of the paper analyzes Generative AI, based as it is on the statistical probability of one token (a word or part of a word) following another. If the relation of tokens is meaningful, this is circumstantial and no more, because its mechanisms of statistical analysis eschew any theory of meaning. This is the case not only for the written text that Generative AI leverages, but by extension image and multimodal forms of meaning that it can generate. The AI can only work with non-textual forms of meaning after applying language labels, and to that extent is captive not only to the limits of probabilistic statistics but the limits of written language as well. While acknowledging gains arising from the brute statistical power of Generative AI, in its second part the paper goes on to map what is lost in its statistical and text-bound approaches to multimodal meaning-making. Our measure of these gains and losses is guided by the concept of grammar, defined here as a theory of the elemental patterns of meaning in the world-not just written text and speech, but also image, space, object, body, and sound. Ironically, a good deal of what is lost by Generative AI is computable. The third and final part of the paper briefly discusses educational applications of Generative AI. Given both its power and intrinsic limitations, we have been experimenting with the application of Generative AI in educational settings and the ways it might be put to pedagogical use. How does a grammatical analysis help us to identify the scope of worthwhile application? Finally, if more of human experience is computable than can be captured in text-bound AI, how might it be possible at the level of code to create a synthesis in which grammatical and multimodal approaches complement Generative AI?

This work is a complete revision of the Iberian stamps on dolia found at the oppidum of Ensérune (Hérault, France), the richest site in Iberian epigraphy for this type of inscriptions. Not only have we carried out autopsies of the inscriptions, revising and modifying some of the previous editors’ readings, but we also present some new items. We provide comments on palaeographic, onomastic, and linguistic aspects, with the aim of putting the inscriptions in context. Most of the texts bear only the name of the craftsman and only in three cases is an additional formula used. As for the origin of the names, there is a certain balance between Iberian and Gaulish names, although the language used is always Iberian.
