Der auditive Diskurs im deutschen Roman der Moderne und der Postmoderne: der Versuch der Typologie

Im Beitrag werden die methodologischen und kultur-historischen Gründungen der Typologie der auditiven Diskurses im deutschen Gegenwartsroman untersucht. Der auditive Diskurs wird als akustischen vs. musikalischen Medien im literarischen Diskurs interpretiert. In der Mitte von der Aufmerksamkeit befindet sich die Veränderung des ideologischen und formalen Deutungen des Klanges und der Musik. Auf dem Material der modernen und postmodernen Romane (Th. Mann, H. Hesse, E. Jelinek, Th. Bernhard, R. Schneider u.a.) wird die Reinterpretation und die Dekonstruktion der romantischen Mythe dargestellt.

In un’epoca in cui lo studio del romanzo si riduce sempre più spesso all’analisi del plot, la forma è la grande trascurata. Eppure ciò che distingue il romanzo dalla semplice narrativa sembra consistere proprio nella sua possibilità di invenzione compositiva. Da dove attingere allora l’ispirazione di forme nuove se non dalla musica, arte “formale” per eccellenza? Strutturato come una partitura, questo saggio esplora il modo in cui diversi romanzieri del XX secolo hanno rielaborato il principio della variazione su tema, già considerato dai compositori più illustri come la forma delle forme. Se alcuni romanzieri vi hanno rintracciato il modo di trasmettere una percezione disgregata della realtà, autori come Marcel Proust, Danilo Kiš e in particolare Milan Kundera lo hanno tradotto in una forma coerente, capace di conciliare l’aspirazione cosmologica propria dell’arte con lo spirito ironico che contraddistingue il romanzo e di cogliere il codice esistenziale di una particolare categoria di individui: quella dei lettori di romanzi.

Thomas Bernhard is known for the musical, rhythmic features of his prose, which have received extensive scholarly attention. This article explores how these features emerged out of the media-specific, idiosyncratic, physical dimensions of his compositional process. Bernhard’s work cannot be understood, I argue, without considering the material scene of its production, which shapes and manifests itself in published versions of his texts in various ways. Including analysis of  textual production in literary interpretation does not limit the hermeneutic openness of texts, but instead radically expands the possibilities of textual interpretation.

Since the second half of the twentieth century various routes, including history and literature, are offered in dealing with the catastrophe of World War II and the Holocaust. Historiographies and novels are of course written with words; how can they bear witness to and reverberate with traumatic experience, which escapes or resists language? In search for an alternative mode of expression and representation, this volume focuses on postwar German and Austrian writers who made use of music in their exploration of the National Socialist past. Their work invoke, however, new questions: What happens when we cross the line between narration and documentation, and between memory and a musical piece? How does identification and fascination affect our reading of the text? What kind of ethical issues do these testimonies raise? As this volume shows, reading these musical biographies is both troubling and compelling since they 'fail' to come to terms with the past. In playing the haunting music that does not let us put the matter to rest, they call into question not only the exclusion of personal stories by official narratives, but also challenge writers' and readers' most intimate perspectives on an unmasterable past.

Der vorliegende Beitrag unternimmt den Versuch, das Skandalpotential des Konzepts „Schlüsselroman“ auszuloten – insbesondere in Bezug auf Probleme, die sich durch Schlüsselromanskandale für Konzepte von Autorschaft ergeben. Anhand prominenter Beispielfälle seit den 1960er Jahren sollen die spezifischen Mechanismen dieser Sonderform des Literaturskandals herausgearbeitet werden. Dazu gehören: die Kontroverse um das gerichtliche Verbot des Romans Mephisto (1936) von Klaus Mann, dem vorgeworfen wurde, den Schauspieler Gustaf Gründgens als paradigmatischen Karrieristen des nationalsozialistischen Kulturbetriebs verleumdet zu haben; die Auseinandersetzung um Thomas Bernhards Roman Holzfällen (1984), gegen den der Komponist Gerhard Lampersberg gerichtlich vorging, da er sich selbst und seine Frau in den Figuren des Ehepaars Auersberger verunglimpft sah; die Debatte um Martin Walsers Tod eines Kritikers (2002), der wegen eines angeblich antisemitischen Porträts Marcel Reich-Ranickis scharf kritisiert wurde; und die bereits erwähnte Affäre um das Verbot des Romans Esra (2003) von Maxim Biller. All diese Skandale verbindet, dass es ihre angebliche Verschlüsselungsstrategie, ihr Status eben als Schlüsselroman ist, der zum Normbruch führt und ihr konkretes Verletzungspotential ausmacht. Dabei wird deutlich, dass die Skandale zu einem Verlust der literarischen Immunität führen und die Person des Autors oder der Autorin ins Zentrum der Kontroversen stellen.

Die hier vorliegende Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit Thomas Bernhards Roman "Das Kalkwerk" und der Adaption dieses Werkes für das polnische Theater von Krystian Lupa. Dabei steht der Vergleich zwischen dem Roman und dem Theaterstück im Mittelpunkt.
Am Beginn der Arbeit wird die Person Thomas Bernhards behandelt, wobei anschließend an eine kurze Ausführung zu seinem Leben und Werk, der Schwerpunkt auf der Rezeption des Schriftstellers in Polen liegt. Dem folgt eine Darstellung eines der interessantesten und originellsten Regisseure des polnischen Theaters der Gegenwart – Krystian Lupa. Hier steht nicht nur seine Biographie im Vordergrund, sondern auch sein Theater und die Stellung der deutschsprachigen und österreichischen Literatur in seinem Schaffen. Bei der Charakterisierung seines Theaters wurden neben den Haupteigenschaften auch die Einflüsse, die Entwicklung und seine Adaptionen von Prosa besprochen. Das nachfolgende Kapitel ist Kalkwerk gewidmet und bietet einen guten Überblick über die wichtigsten Charakteristika des Romans, sowie des Stückes. Zuerst wird Bernhards Das Kalkwerk behandelt, wobei besonders auf die Handlung, das Erzählverfahren und die Eigenschaften eingegangen wird. Danach konzentriert sich die Arbeit auf Lupas Adaption des Romans. Nach einer kurzen Einführung in die Entstehungsgeschichte, wird die Rezeption des Stückes in der polnischen Presse erörtert. Hierauf folgt eine Analyse der wichtigsten Bereiche der Theaterinszenierung: Aufbau und Inhalt, Schwerpunkte sowie Symbolik. Im folgenden Kapitel wird der Vergleich zwischen den beiden Versionen angestellt, wobei unterschiedliche Bereiche auf die Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede untersucht werden: Narration, Musik und Raum, Inhalt, Studie und Symbolik, Figuren des Konrads und der Konrad sowie Sprache. Im abschließenden Resümee wird unter Zusammenfassung der bisherigen Ergebnisse dargestellt, welche Gemeinsamkeiten und Unterschiede es zwischen Bernhards und Lupas Kalkwerk gibt und was überwiegt.
Diese interdisziplinäre und intermediale Diplomarbeit bildet den Beginn einer intensiven Auseinandersetzung mit dem Werk Thomas Bernhards im Theater Krystian Lupas und eröffnet eine neue Perspektive in der Rezeption Bernhards im nicht deutschsprachigen Raum.

Absztrakt. Tanulmányomban a kudarccal és a sikerrel kapcsolatos problémákat vizsgálom Kertész Imre műveiben. Elsőként a jó élet vonatkozásában tárgyalom a felmerülő kérdéseket, tehát az egzisztenciális kudarc és siker különböző aspektusait elemzem. Ezt követően a Kertésznél megjelenő morálfilozófiai dilemmákról, illetve az egzisztenciális és a morális kudarc, továbbá az egzisztenciális és a morális siker összefüggéseiről írok. végezetül a civilizációs kudarc kertészi felfogását próbálom megragadni, és arra a kérdésre is választ keresek, hogy "a holokauszt mint kultúra" mennyiben jelentheti egy megújuló civilizáció és morál alapját, egyáltalán, lehetséges-e a civilizációs megújulás?
In my paper I examine failure and success related problems through the works of Imre Kertész. First, I discuss the arising questions regarding a good life, thus, I analyse the various aspects of existential failure and success. Then I write about moral philosophical dilemmas, and the relation between existential and moral failure and existential and moral success in the works of Kertész. Finally, I try to grasp how Kertész perceives civilizational failure and answer the question to what extent can “the holocaust as culture” provide a basis for the revival of civilization and moral, or whether there’s a possibility for civilization’s revival at all.

В монографии исследуется феномен художественной репрезентации личного опыта автора, понимаемого как сложный симбиоз «биографического» и «воображаемого». На материале европейского романа XVIII–XX веков рассматриваются проблемы памяти, экзистенциального самообретения «Я», здоровья и безумия, обыденного и поэтического миросозерцаний. Структура книги отображает вехи, проделанные жанром от
эпохи Просвещения (И.В. Гете, К.Ф. Мориц) до романтизма (Т. де Квинси) и модернизма в широком понимании (В. Вульф, Дж. Конрад, Т. Бернхард). Топография «Я» предстает во всей полноте эстетических воплощений – от внутренних ландшафтов до архитектурных метафор, от исповедального солипсизма до карнавала нарративных масок.
Книга предназначена для филологов, культурологов и всех тех, кто интересуется вопросами истории европейской литературы.

Die Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit Krystian Lupas Inszenierungen Bernhardscher Texte: Kalkwerk, Immanuel Kant, Rodzeństwo.Ritter,Dene,Voss, Auslöschung/Wymazywanie und Na szczytach panuje cisza. Lupas Bearbeitungen der Texte und die Stellung des österreichischen Schriftstellers in seinem Theater werden analysiert, besonders im Hinblick auf die Rezeption. Das Ziel ist eine Dokumentation und Interpretation der Aufführungen im Lichte der Kritik. Die interdisziplinäre Diplomarbeit hat einen archival-wissenschaftlichen Charakter und bietet einen einführenden Überblick.

Relating the works of Austrian author Thomas Bernhard to Søren Kierkegaard’s concept of despair as presented in Sickness unto death, this article claims that Bernhard’s body of work is to be understood as a demonic comedy. For Kierkegaard, demonic despair emerges when a person in despair clings to his or her own despair. The despairer loves to stay close to things he hates, and would rather be right than be redeemed. This is the paradoxical and comical logic of demonic despair and also the essence of the literature of Thomas Bernhard. Hence the aim of the article is to discuss the issue of comedy as it relates to demonic despair, in the Kierkegaardian sense just indicated – the central argument being that the structure of that form of despair is precisely a comic structure. In this way I hope to correct the prevalent conception, also among Bernhard scholars, of Bernhard as nothing but a misanthropic singer of darkness and death.

1989) посвящена поэтике и поэтологии его романов. Произведения
австрийского классика рассматриваются в парадигме европейского метаромана, концептуализирующего жизнь как письмо. Выявляются параллели с метапрозой Пруста, Валери, Рильке, Музиля, Вальзера, Янна, Беккета и др., определяются интертекстуальные и интермедиальные стратегии автора в свете модернистской критики языка, романтической философии фрагмента, музыкально-философской культуры Австрии и Германии. Анализируются «беспредметный» мир и квазимузыкальное письмо Бернхарда, в строгом порядке которого автор преодолевает позднемодерный «распад ценностей». Исследование охватывает обширный корпус текстов писателя, многие из которых не переведены на русский язык или впервые разбираются в режиме «пристального прочтения» («Amras», «Beton», «Korrektur», «Auslöschung. Ein Zerfall» и др.).
Монография адресована филологам, специалистам и студентам гуманитарного профиля, а также всем, кто интересуется интеллектуальной культурой ХХ века.

To próba odczytania "Wycinki" Thomasa Bernharda i "Ferdydurki" Witolda Gombrowicza za pomocą narzędzi wypracowanych przez Gilles'a Deleuze'a i Feliksa Guattariego, tj. schizoanalizy.

В статье сопоставляется поэтика Т. Бернхарда и Жан-Поля с точки зрения эксплицитных и имплицитных интертекстуальных связей. На материале произведений «Изничтожение: Распад» и «Зибенкэз» анализируется модель жизни как письма.

The paper offers a comparative study of Th. Bernhard‟s and Jean Paul‟s poetics focused on both explicit and implicit intertextual links. The authors‟ “Auslöschung: Ein Zerfall” and “Siebenkäs” are analysed in view of life performed as if it is a writing.

"Monsieur Teste" by Paul  Valéry in the poetics of Thomas Bernhard: some intertexual traces of a quote

This paper considers intertextual relations between Thomas Bernhard’s novel "Korrektur" and Paul Valéry’s essay "Monsieur Teste". Quoting the title of the famous essay, which belongs to a writer, whose artwork provisioned modernist and postmodernist poetics, Bernhard presents a complicated interpretation of his own text. Our particular interest is in revealing of a dissociated structure of the subject (author, narrator, hero), doppelgänger motif, philosophy of writing, and poetics of space.

Im 50. Bedenkjahr an den Anschluss Österreichs an Hitlerdeutschland und zur Hundertjahrfeier des Wiener Burgtheaters ließ Thomas Bernhard sein letztes Theaterstück am 4. November 1988 unter der Regie von Claus Peymann uraufführen: Heldenplatz. Im Vorfeld und im Zuge der Aufführung gab es einen beispiellosen Aufruhr in der Medien- und Politiklandschaft, lautete doch Bernhards provokative Schlussfolgerung des Stückes, dass die Jahre 1938 und 1988 austauschbar seien (vgl. Höller 2007: 7). Die Brisanz des Stücks liegt – neben den für Bernhard üblichen Österreich-Beschimpfungen aller Art – in der Kritik an der umstrittenen Opferthese, nach der Österreich erstes Opfer Hitlers gewesen sei: Das in Österreich bis in die späten 1980er-Jahre als Ideologie der Nachkriegszeit benutzte Selbstbild erfuhr infolge der Waldheim-Affäre eine Revidierung.

The article focuses on a particular conception of the idea of «sublime», concerning the tension between absolute objects and their empirical representation. A brief historical resume shows that, since Longino’s Perì Hýpsous, «sublime» has always been connected with a problematization of the role of language. An analogue idea seems to be fundamental in the Austrian tradition of Sprachskepsis (in the beginning of the XX Century) and, above all, in the works of Thomas Bernhard. This author’s goal is somehow paradoxical: while adopting the form of artistic representation, Bernhard aims to show the failure of representation. In his works, he approaches this problem through two different strategies. From one side, he directly talks about the ineffectiveness of mimetic representation. But at the same time, he manages to create a peculiar, personal narrative style: aiming to show this same message indirectly, as a sort of “collateral effect”.
