Impacts of physical disability on an individual’s career development. Despite ‘career ’ becoming a somewhat nebulous term, career development remains a proactive and dynamic process aimed at meeting the needs of both the organisation and the individual. Although the limited literature deals with disability in general, rather than specific physical disabilities, it does suggest the relationship between career development and disability is complex and individuals with a physical disability still face discrimination through stereotyping and perceptual generalisations. Two simulation experiments described a student seeking to borrow class notes. The notes were needed either because of a lack of academic effort or because of a physical disability. The perceived controllability of the cause, affective reactions, and the likelihood of lending one's notes were ascertained. A total of 245 undergraduates served as Ss. V ta namen je izdelan elaborat pregleda dostopnosti stavbe gibalno oviranim, ki uporabljajo električni invalidski voziček, opredelitev nedostopnih točk, predlogi rešitev le-teh in narejena osnovna rekapitulacija posegov.
Na podlagi ugotovitev bo fakulteta zaprosila za potrebna sredstva.

Despite the growing interest and supporting evidence for person-centered care (PCC), there is still a fundamental disagreement about what makes healthcare person-centered. In this article, we define PCC as operating with three fundamental conditions: personal, participatory and holistic. To further understand these concepts, we develop a framework based on the theory of affordances, which we apply to the healthcare case of rehabilitation and a concrete experiment on social interactions between persons with cerebral palsy and physio-and occupational therapists. Based on the application of the theory, we argue that in order for healthcare to be considered as PCC, professionals need to adopt a personalistic attitude in their care, defined (at the how-level) in terms of mutual affordances: how the professional and the person of care acknowledges each other as a person in an interaction. In opposition, we define (at the what level) the functionalistic attitude in terms of object affordances, those related to a concrete goal. We show that PCC requires a balance of personalistic and functionalistic attitudes, since this contributes to a participatory and holistic conception of, and interaction with, the person of care.

Communication is a very important important aspect of our everyday lives. Since we all do not live in our place, there was need to have varied means of communication, this gave rise to mass media. This article aims to discuss the strategies for answering the rehabilitation needs of persons with leprosy-related disabilities in integrated settings through primary health care (PHC) services and community-based rehabilitation (CBR). While the provision of rehabilitation services through the PHC system remains problematic in most developing countries, the article concludes that CBR programmes have the potential for rehabilitation of leprosy-affected persons in integrated settings. However, the limited coverage of CBR programmes may pose an obstacle to such an approach. The author suggests the use of existing specific rehabilitation infrastructures meant only for leprosy-affected persons for initiating, sustaining and extending the CBR coverage to the surrounding communities. At the same time, the author asks for support and strengthening of organizations of leprosy-affected persons, promoting their active involvement in all rehabilitation processes.

The target of this article was to realize a description on the application of the qualitative method in Physical Therapy, discipline that has based his scientific development on the paradigm of investigation quantitatively, due to his historical origin from the medicine and as a response to the need for attention and rehabilitation of the persons with physical disabilities. The main objective of this work is to design and construct a microcomputer based system: to control electric appliances such as light, fan, heater, washing machine, motor, TV, etc. The paper discusses two major approaches to control home appliances. The first involves controlling home appliances using timer option. The second approach is to control home appliances using voice command. Moreover, it is also possible to control appliances using Graphical User Interface. The parallel port is used to transfer data from computer to the particular device to be controlled. An interface box is designed to connect the high power loads to the parallel port. This system will play an important role for the elderly and physically disable people to control their home appliances in intuitive and flexible way. Amputation of a limb usually has a negative impact on psycho-social and physical well being. If clinical data from the general population are considered, one way to decrease this negative impact may be through regular participation in sports. Unfortunately, for individuals with limb amputations less is known on the influence of sports participation. The current research aimed to identify this influence and the participation rate in sports of these individuals.
Results of a systematic review identified that individuals with limb amputations may experience the same benefits of sports as the general population. Despite this, only 15% of individuals with lower limb amputations participate in sports at least 5 hours a month, while 57% of the individuals with upper limb amputations participate in sports for at least 4 hours a month. In general poor health, smoking, an age older than 60 years, and a vascular cause of amputation are negatively associated with sports participation. The desire to stay healthy, the pleasure derived from sports and the psycho-social benefits represent the main reasons to start and keep participating in sports. Meanwhile, the lack of motivation, inadequate facilities, trivialization from others and poor health were barriers commonly mentioned by the participants in this research. Support from family, sport partners or even strangers may offer the boost needed to overcome most of the barriers experienced.
In conclusion, sports should be introduced at an early stage in the rehabilitation program of individuals with limb amputations and each individual should receive a sport advice tailored to his/hers personal barriers and desires.

Il contributo presenta una ricerca svolta in alcune scuole dell’infanzia in Liguria sull’utilizzo della robotica nella predisposizione di ambienti di gioco e di relazione. Le attività hanno previsto l’impiego di robot costruiti appositamente con gli obiettivi di sostenere/integrare le abituali attività ludiche e sociali; favorire in tutti i bambini, compresi quelli che presentano gravi disabilità, il raggiungimento delle competenze di socialità e di comunicazione; mediare e semplificare le relazioni tra bambini, anche quelli con grave disabilità motoria. Le sessioni di gioco mediate dai robot sono state osservate in presenza e analizzate tramite riprese video. Nel corso dello studio sono stati somministrati i test della Playfullness di Bundy e un test di osservazione collegato al robot IROMEC. La ricerca ha permesso di valutare le potenzialità e i limiti dell’utilizzo di un robot all’interno di un ambiente di apprendimento strutturato, finalizzato all’integrazione di bambini con disabilità motoria nella scuola dell’infanzia.
This paper presents a study into the integration of robotics in the design of play-based environments in kindergartens. The activities, which were carried out in kindergartens in Liguria, Italy, employed specially designed robots and were intended to: support and complement normal play and social activities; help all children, including those with severe disabilities, to develop social and communication competencies; mediate and facilitate relationships between all children, irrespective of disability. Realtime monitoring of the robot-mediated play sessions was complemented by analysis of video recordings. Bundy’s Test of Playfulness was administered, as was an observation test connected to the IROMEC robot. The study resulted in evaluation of the potential and limitations related to deployment of robots in structured play environments designed to facilitate the inclusion of children with physical disabilities in kindergarten.

This situational analysis (SITAN) addresses the question: “what is the current situation for persons with disabilities in Nigeria?”. It has been prepared for the Disability Inclusive Development programme (which works on access to education, jobs, healthcare, and reduced stigma and discrimination for persons with disabilities in Bangladesh, Jordan, Kenya, Nepal, Nigeria, and Tanzania), to better understand the current context, including COVID-19, and available evidence in Nigeria. It will be helpful for anyone interested in disability inclusion in Nigeria, especially in relation to stigma, employment, education, health, and humanitarian issues.

The current study used qualitative methodology to investigate the body image concerns of people with physical disabilities. Three males and four females aged between 22 and 50 years, in Melbourne, Australia, participated in the study. Three participants were heterosexual, two were homosexual and two described their sexual identity as predominantly heterosexual but 'bicurious'. The data were gathered through individual interviews of approximately 2 h duration, where participants responded to a set of predetermined open-ended questions. The study found that bodily impairment had a negative influence on the participants' psychological experiences, feelings and attitudes toward their own bodies. The impact of feedback from the social environment was highlighted, and there was evidence suggesting that individuals gradually adjust to their different bodies and increasingly accept their disabilities over time.
