Haidamaks

The article is devoted to scantily explored theme of the religious aspect of the haidamak movement on the example of the activity of the abbot of Motroninskii monastery Melkhizedek Znachko-Iavorskii. The author of the article explores the complex problem of whether the abbot actually had the support personally from the empress Catherine II and Russian authorities in his efforts to restore the Orthodox faith on the Right Bank Ukraine. The relations between the Orthodox clergy and haidamaks are also investigated in the article. The author briefly studies the biography of Melkhizedek Znachko-Iavorskii and focuses on the events which preceded the Koliivshchina (the haidamaks uprising of 1768) especially the journeys of abbot to Saint-Petersburg and Warsaw. The author finds out whether Melkhizedek had the audience with the empress. The published and the archival documents are used in the article. The author examines the historiography of the question included the studies of the Russian, the Ukrainian, the Polish and the American scholars.
Статья посвящена малоисследованной теме – религиозному аспекту гайдамацкого движения на примере деятельности игумена Мотронинского монастыря Мельхиседека Значко-Яворского. Автор статьи исследует сложный вопрос: действительно ли игумен имел поддержку лично от императрицы Екатерины II и российских властей в своей деятельности по восстановлению православия на Правобережной Украине. В статье также кратко затрагивается связь православного духовенства с гайдамаками. Автор бегло касается биографии Мельхиседека Значко-Яворского и заостряет внимание на событиях, предшествующих Колиивщине (гайдамацкому восстанию 1768 г.), а именно на поездках игумена в Санкт-Петербург и Варшаву. Автор выясняет, действительно ли Мельхиседек встречался с императрицей. В статье используются архивные документы, рассматривается историография вопроса, включая работы русских и украинских ученых, а так же польских и американских исследователей.
