Parni valjak (pronounced [pâːrniː ʋǎːʎak]; Croatian: 'steamroller') is a Croatian and former Yugoslav rock band. They were one of the top acts of the former Yugoslav rock scene, and currently one of the top rock-and-roll bands in Croatia.
Parni valjak was founded in 1975. Unlike many rock bands that would come later, their style was becoming more mainstream, becoming closer to pop, especially compared with the bands like Prljavo kazalište or Film.
As years went by, their refusal to change style proved to be the important factor in the band's longevity. They kept a loyal following in 1980s and in 1990s, refusing to allow elements of folk and turbo folk music to become part of their repertoire. Because of that the band enjoys great respect among many Croatian rock critics, being seen as the embodiment of "true" rock and urban culture and many of their songs are considered evergreens in the former Yugoslavia like "Sve još miriše na nju", "Jesen u meni", "Ugasi me" and "Zastave". Parni valjak kept a relatively small but dedicated following for 30 years, and many people tend to gather at their concerts that feature energetic performances, despite advanced age of the band's members: Aki Rahimovski - vocals, Husein Hasanefendić-Hus - guitars, Marijan Brkić Brk - guitars, Berislav Blažević-Bero - keyboards, Zvonimir Bučević-Buč - bass guitar, Dražen Scholz-Šolc - drums, Tina Rupčić - vocal, Anita Mlinarić - sax.
All I Need is the second studio album by English singer and songwriter Foxes, released on 5 February 2016.
Foxes started work on the album in January 2015 in Los Angeles. Commenting on the album's direction, Foxes said "I was inspired a lot more with this record with stripping things back and making it a lot more emotional. I didn't want to do a concept album, I always like it when I can write from a diary in a way. It's quite an emotional album. It's got elements from the first one, but it's definitely not as produced. The tracks feel a lot more vocal [with] piano and strings. It's still cinematic in ways but I'm a lot more honest on this record this time around, which is quite a scary thing to be." She has also said that the album was inspired by relationships. The album was originally scheduled to be released in October of 2015 but the album was pushed back to 5 February 2016 so it could be released worldwide.
All I Need received generally positive reviews from music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album has an average score of 69 out of 100, which indicates "generally favorable reviews" based on 8 reviews.
"All I Need" is a 1967 hit single recorded by The Temptations for the Gordy (Motown) label. It is the group's first single to be produced by Norman Whitfield's protégé Frank Wilson. Written by Wilson, Edward Holland, Jr. and R. Dean Taylor, the single was a Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 8; it was also a number-two hit on the Billboard R&B singles chart.
David Ruffin, the Temptations main lead singer, serves as the songs narrator. In it he's begging his lover to forgive his unfaithfulness and mistreatment of her, telling her how guilty he feels about it and that he'll make it up to her. The recordings beat is very similar to the songs written and produced by Holland-Dozier-Holland, Motown's main songwriting team (of which Holland was a part of).
The single is the first not to be produced by the group's main producer Norman Whitfield since Get Ready, as Whitfield produced their releases starting with the following single. And due to Whitfield maintaining an iron grip on his creative control over The Temptations' released material, it would also be the last until the singles where they're teamed with Diana Ross and the Supremes in 1968.
"All I Need" is a power ballad written by Sharon den Adel and Robert Westerholt for Within Temptation's fourth studio album The Heart of Everything (2007).
In an interview, Within Temptation vocalist Sharon den Adel discussed "All I Need":
The video for this single was shot on 30 September in Berlin. It was released online on 19 October 2007. The video consists of a dream world in the mind of Sharon's character. The band is shown tied to walls of their cells, along with various surrealistic scenes. In the end of the video Sharon is shown in a hospital bed with images from the dream sequence flickering on a screen connected to her mind via wires.
In an interview, den Adel discussed some elements of the video:
Lea: It's you in a hospital-bed there...
Sharon: Yeah, and they are monitoring my dreams, so they are analysing what I'm dreaming. And that's basically the video and it just suited best with the lyrics, because it's very difficult to express things which are very symbolic, which you can't really show in images like "hope". How do you express "hope", you know? Or "believe in something" or "keeping something real" or "people who are fake". You can image that very well in a way of a dream. That's why we did it in that way.
The Parni (/ˈpɑːrnaɪ/; Ancient Greek: Πάρνοι, Parnoi) or Aparni (/əˈpɑːrnaɪ/; Ἄπαρνοι, Aparnoi) were an east Iranian people of the Ochus (Ancient Greek: Ὧχος Okhos) (Tejen) River valley, southeast of the Caspian Sea. The Parni were one of the three tribes of the Dahae confederacy.
In the middle of the 3rd century BCE, the Parni invaded Parthia, "drove away the Greek satraps, who had then only just acquired independence, and founded a new dynasty", that of the Arsacids.
There is no unambiguous evidence of the Parnian in native Iranian language sources,cf. and all references to these people comes from Greek and Latin accounts. In these accounts, which are not necessarily contemporaneous, it is difficult to unambiguously identify references to the Parni due to inconsistency of Greek/Latin naming and transliteration, and/or the similarity to names of other tribes such as the Sparni or Apartani and the Eparnoi or Asparioi. It may also be that the Parni are related to one or more of these other tribes, and that "their original homeland may have been southern Russia from where they emigrated with other Scythian tribes."
Ja sam covjek obican
radim svojim rukama
i nosim obraz koji traje.
Prokleta nam sudbina
samo udara
samo trazi
trazi, trazi
a malo daje.
Ja gradim autoput u glavi
da se vozim slobodno
i ne dam nikom da me gnjavi
kad vozim prebrzo.
Ja sam covjek obican
radim svojim rukama
al ovim putem necu dalje.
Vlakovi nam prolaze
sreca prati podobne
nek racun plati tko ga salje.
Ja gradim autoput u glavi
da se vozim slobodno
i ne dam nikom da me gnjavi
kad vozim prebrzo.
Jer ja samo sklopim oci
gdje god zelim ja cu doci
snovi teku uzvodno.
Nista novo, nista dobro
pod neonom ovog grada
nama gori crveno.
