Coronation Streak

There was a regal theme to my painting over the last month, as is only right and proper, since it bookended the Coronation of Charles III (Electric Boogaloo)

Fly, Fly and Fly Again: Space Marines vs Death Guard

Pootle here, with a training mission for my Death Guard force, the Second Law, ahead of an upcoming game against Winters. I've not played with the Death Guard in a while and want a run-out with a specific list; Kraken has volunteered to lead a force to take them on.

Ork-mented Reality: Orks vs Space Marines

'Ere We Go!

I, Pootle, am extremely keen to try out my newly modelled Warboss Bludteef in battle, as well as the Tempest of War card deck I've recently acquired. I, Stylus, hava volunteered to face them and picked a list from the Ultramarines.

Give it a Whirlwind

Tony Cottrell's original Whirlwind conversion

Way back in White Dwarf 117, Tony Cottrell launched a fantastic series of articles (which included the original Spartan, now being relaunched by GW, and a 40k-scale Baneblade). However the first (and best, to my mind) was the original Whirlwind above.

I'm Barticus! Ultramarines vs Death Guard

Something a little different today: Pootle here, writing up a battle against a new general! Barticus will be leading a detachment of Ultramarines against my Death Guard in a narrative game.

Weekend at Burnies 3: Ultramarines vs Word Bearers

Pootle here again with a write-up of my fourth and final game at Weekend at Burnies.

I was only intending to do brief narrative write-ups for my games, but the final match-up was a humdinger against the Word Bearers, and as it was against such a fabled opponent and Weekend at Burnies is all about the narrative, I couldn't resist tying all four games together into one story. Part one (the introductory story and details of my army) is here and part two (summary narrative report of the first three games, and an important introduction to this story) is here.

Weekend at Burnies 3: Ultramarines vs Khorne Daemons, Harlequins and Necrons

Pootle here again with a write-up of my first few games at Weekend at Burnies against Khorne Daemons, Harlequins and Necrons.

Weekend at Burnies 3: Ultramarines - A Gathering Storm

Pootle here, with an intro to my games at Weekend at Burnies. I have to start with a huge thank you to Mr AP Burn for organising the event at the Factorum near Warminster. I had four cracking games against some top opponents and had an amazing weekend of Warhammer!

I took 1,750 points of first-born Ultramarines, following on from the narrative developed by Kraken (links here and here). This is the intro to my army. Battle reports from the first three games against Khorne Daemons, Necrons and Harlequins are here and the (awesome) finale against Word Bearers is  here.

Come with me if you want to live: Oldhammer Terminators

In January 1989, White Dwarf introduced the first rules for Terminator-armoured marines. They were great: there was an option to equip a squad of Terminators with jump packs*; there were no models for that but imagine it just for a second!

Vial Save You: Ultramarines vs Death Guard

"Ark Saviour, this is Ark Actual. Report."

There was a brief and pregnant pause. A massive energy surge, then the convoy's signal vanished from the auspex, and they weren't responding to hails. Even Captain Praesidio was staying ominously silent. The damned Death Guard had caught them, so close to safety. Chaplain Sirius looked at the Techpriest operating the vox, who gave a tiny shake of his helm.

There was no time to mourn, Sirius decided. Swift action would decide the day. Grief had no place on his battlefield.

"Deartur! Take a Razorback and the reserve group, depart for their last known position with all immediacy. Locate and retrieve the vaccine, recover survivors with secondary priority."

"I go, in His name," the Chapter Champion replied, immediately donning his ornate helmet and striding out of the command room. Chaplain Sirius turned back to the Techpriest.

"Ferramen, prepare the Teleportarium. I shall assemble a reaction force in case Deartur is attacked. The Fourteenth will not be far off, I think. I should like to catch them unprepared for a change."

Ferramen nodded, then waved one of his chapter serfs into position on the vox before heading out. Sirius turned to the huge Aquila that sat atop the Ark Bastion's central command banks. "We shall not fail," he told it, then followed his brothers out of the room.

Armies on parade

Pootle here! Stylus has been gently suggesting I update my army pages, partly so that when I host a game over Skype my opposing general can see what models he can choose from, but mostly so he can get a look at what I've been up to as I'm not at all as assiduous in posting pics of all the miniatures I paint as he and Kraken are. So here's a quick summary and links to each of my armies where I’ve got pics of (almost) everything I’ve painted.

Hexenhammer: Daemons vs Ultramarines

Skypehammer! We invented it here on this blog, you know. Before the pandemic even made it necessary. Some even say we might have invented the internet purely to facilitate the game. Whatever the truth of this, it's time for another one, to carry on our traditions!

Reanimaniacs: Necrons vs Ultramarines

The Ultramarines have been defending the devastated world of Bagot Prime on two fronts against the forces of Nurgle and Bludteef's Ork horde. The last thing they want to discover is that Bagot Prime turns out to be a Necron Tombworld. Now the Space Skeletons have started to wake up, it may well be the last thing the Ultramarines discover...

Another Skype battle today, with Kraken commanding the boys in blue and me, Pootle, taking command of the Necrons

Hammer and Anvil: Ultramarines vs Death Guard

"Ark actual, this is Ark saviour, Grammus reporting. Our armoured column is en route to the front. I estimate our arrival in under fifteen minutes. The vaccine is secure and prepared for delivery."

The engine of Cor Gloria, his Land Raider, growled happily as they tore along the road together. Grammus, a tech-specialist veteran with the chapter's eighth company, could feel the ancient vehicle's desire to reach the battle, aiding him as he operated the throttle. His mission was vital, but the battle lust of the machine spirit was infectious. Even had it been a routine operation, he would be burning to reach their goal with the same zeal.

The hated Death Guard had been pressing hard against the Ultramarines front lines, using a lethal prion disease capable of transmission through sight of a victim alone. The marines of the apothecarium had worked hard to prepare an optic vaccine. This panacea would swing the tide of the battle, allowing the Ultramarines to finally leave their hermetic bunker line, the so-called Ark Bastion, and push back. Time was of the essence, the Death Guard had very nearly breached the automatic defences protecting the bunkers.

"Close range auspex returns at two, ten and twelve, brothers," Vertorix warned over the vox. The Techmarine was riding in the back, keeping an eye on the vaccine crate cooling systems. "The traitors seek to ambush us. We must not be delayed!"

Captain Praesidio responded immediately from his position in the middle of the convoy. "All vehicles, full speed. On wings of glory, ride through them!"

Grammus slammed the throttle open on both tracks and Cor Gloria roared in response. They would not be stopped. The antidote would be delivered.

Raiders of the Lost Ork: Ultramarines vs Evil Sunz

An Ultramarines patrol has run into more representatives of the Ork incursion on the remote world of Bagot Prime. Warboss Bludteef is missing, having his Cybork body rebuilt after the last encounter between these armies, but there are plenty of Evil Sunz left to cause trouble.

Tonight I, Pootle, am hosting Rapid (in fetching bold italics) for his first foray into 9th edition.

Bludteef's Return: Ultramarines vs Evil Sunz

Three centuries ago, the Imperial world of Bagot Prime was attacked by an Ork Warlord, Bludteef. Beaten off and thought long-dead, all signs are pointing to his re-emergence. An Ultramarine strike force assembles to crush this growing menace before it can get out of control. But is it already too late?
