Life Below Zero returned for its 23rd season earlier this week, and reportedly, that will be its last. National Geographic has also cancelled the spin-offs of the long-running reality series — Life Below Zero: Next Generation, Life Below Zero: First Alaskans, and Life Below Zero: Port Protection Alaska.
According to Reality Blurred, cast members of the cancelled spin-off shows are now appearing on the final season of the original Life Below Zero series.
The 23rd season features longtime cast members Sue Aikens, Ricko DeWilde, and the Hailstone family, as well as Johnny Rolfe and the Roach family (Life Below Zero: Next Generation) and Gage and Avery Hoffman (Life Below Zero: First Alaskans).
While NatGeo has yet to announce the cancellations, people who work on the shows have confirmed that they’re over, and some cast members have posted about it.
Brittany Rowland of Life Below Zero: Next Generation wrote on her Facebook:
“National Geographic has decided to cancel Life Below Zero’s spin-off shows, including ours, Next Generation. Honestly, we don’t exactly understand why as NextGen has been wonderfully successful.”
It’s not yet known when the series finale of Life Below Zeo will air. The final season of Life Below Zero isn’t expected to land on Disney+ until March.
What do you think? Are you a fan of this NatGeo reality series franchise? Will you be sad to see it end with season 23?
I think it’s a shame, we always look forward to the new season. We love seeing how they do what they do,
What Sue does living alone like that and learning more about the native culture and the way climate change affectsthem.. It makes me sad to think they won’t be back. So much tv is the same old thing and some of what they call reality isn’t, we looked forward to Life below zero
Life Below Zero gave everyone an in-depth look into this incredible State, it’s harshness and beauty, the unbelievable skills necessary to survive and thrive and an unfiltered reality check on Alaskan natives. This amazing program should not be cancelled and the proof lies in the vast numbers of viewers! This program alone has brought more education and information on Alaskan heritage, the terror of the unknown wilderness and the personalities who allow viewers the privilege of sharing their lives!
We love love the show
Love the Show
If life below zero is taking off then this world will be a lonelier place..
I would donate my time to move there and film the show for free .
The last Alaskan was a major kick in my gut when that ended who makes these bogus decisions.
When Bob died I felt as though I lost a member of my family..
The show had such a massive impact on me and all of my family and friends.
Please don’t cancel LBZ

I think NatGeo/Discovery network has lost their edge and a decent vision. The shows being canceled, Life Below Zero, all of its spinoffs like Port Protection Alaska, another superb show is being discontinued, because, why? These shows are true reality that we human beings sometimes need in our everyday horrible lives. It’s a break and shows the true nature of human beings and how they preserve in real, challenging circumstances. It gives us hope. We need this kind of substance to help wade through all the crap those of us endure in in lower 48 on a daily basis. I… Read more »
