Hasrat ini termaktub dalam Falsafah Pendidikan Kebangsaan yang menentukan arah haluan, asas dan sumber inspirasi kepada semua usaha dan rancangan dalam bidang pendidikan di Malaysia. Pada tahun 2003, satu dasar baru pendidikan diperkenalkan iaitu Pengajaran Pendidikan Sains dan Matematik dalam Bahasa Inggeris (PPSMI). Tujuan dasar baru ini diperkenalkan adalah untuk memperkukuhkan dan meningkatkan penguasaan bahasa Inggeris di kalangan pelajar Malaysia. Namun, pada tahun 2009 dasar PPSMI mulai dimansuhkan secara berperingkat dan sepenuhnya pada 2012. The internet-based interactive learning program was launched in 2004 by the Deputy Minister of Education. The program draws positive response from educators as it provides various facilities that are capable of improving student achievement. Through this study, a Zoom-A Program usage guide with active learning strategies has been developed. Three active learning strategies by Simmons & DiStasi are modified and utilized in this study according to student levels and situations i.e. Number Head Together, question and answer together; and the ten two strategy. The number of respondents involves a total of 35 primary school students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kempas, Johor Bahru. A questionnaire is used as an instrument of research. The challenge in our education today is to identify the learning process and methodologies that c... more The challenge in our education today is to identify the learning process and methodologies that can help students grasp the importance of knowledge and understand the way to apply that knowledge in the real world environment. Therefore, computer-simulation has been considered as a potential approach and methodology to achieve that objective. Based on Kirkpatrick’s model, the data is gathered through three types of questionnaires which are designed for three different levels of evaluations (students’ reactions, behavioural changes and self-evaluation level) and two pre-test post-test to determines the level of student’s knowledge and skills. The results of this study showed that most of the students increased their knowledge and skills performance after the use of computer-simulation in learning network design. Students of different gender, who are also with various academic backgrounds, as well working experiences, have unexpectedly produced high results on their questionnaires reports of students’ reactions, behaviour changes and self-evaluations, where most of the results are in the positive level. The response given indicates that they have agreed towards the use of computer-simulation in learning network design because of the effectiveness of its usage. In conclusion, this learning process and methodology have a strong potential to increase the achievement of students’ knowledge and skills, as needed in the real job market.

This study investigated the nature of student group interactions through the incorporation of onl... more This study investigated the nature of student group interactions through the incorporation of online collaborative learning (OCL) initiative, with its aim to enhance students’ learning in a Malaysian tertiary multimedia and ICT education course. Data collected from questionnaires, interviews and online forum transcripts were the basis for an interpretive analysis of students’ interactions in online collaborative learning and to assess the extent to which it was successful in enhancing students’ learning. The results showed four types of student group interactions styles: strategic, task directed, peripheral and disengaged which in support of the students’ cognitive, social and emotional development. The research also found that the incorporation of online collaborative learning can lead to the facilitation of the student and student’s group learning process and potential constraints from the technology or the lack of social and verbal cues can lead to different working methods of communication and different styles of interactions and student’s engagement.

Across the nation students' enrolment and achievement in science, technology, engineering, an... more Across the nation students' enrolment and achievement in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields are on the decline. BLOSSOMS project has been introduced as an initiative on addressing the issue, where teachers are trained to design and develop a BLOSSOMS' educational interactive video of STEM lessons with the integration of Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) approach. The various reactions and responses from the teachers are recorded emphasizing on their needs and challenges in completing the task. A total of 148 online semi-structured questionnaires were collected, followed by in-depth interviews with five teachers who were involved in the project. This study creates an awareness of the needs to further extend BLOSSOMS project. Also, to highlight issues of concern related to teachers' lack of content knowledge mastery of STEM subject.

"Zeolite loaded with alkylsilane-covered titanium oxide was foun... more "Zeolite loaded with alkylsilane-covered titanium oxide was found to be more effective than nonporous silica counterpart as “phase-boundary catalyst (PBC)” to promote the epoxidation of alkenes with aqueous hydrogen peroxide. It was demonstrated that the phase-boundary catalyst system required neither stirring to make an emulsion nor addition of a cosolvent to make a homogeneous solution to drive the reaction. However, some basic facts about them remain unclear, such as the question as to where an effective location of the active sites of PBC: is it the external surface of the catalysts or in their pore? In order to elucidate this problem, TS-1, HZSM-5 and zeolite loaded with alkylsilane–covered sulfonic acid in which the location of the active sites mainly inside the pore system are chosen as model catalysts. Catalytic activity of TS-1 and HZSM-5 catalysts were examined after modification with n-octadecyltrichlorosilane (ODS). Their activities are compared with zeolite loaded with alkylsilane-covered titanium oxide particles, in which the active sites are on their external surface in reactions of 1-octene with aqueous H2O2and cyclohexene with water as model reactions. It was suggested that the location of the active sites on the external surface plays an important role in ”phase-boundary catalysis” phenomenon."

The development of mobile learning which rapidly gains popularity among students today generates ... more The development of mobile learning which rapidly gains popularity among students today generates impacts on students' learning styles such as the use of web-based learning, courseware and online apps. With the advantages of mobile learning materials utilization as well as their effectiveness in learning, a preschool learning app known as AKSES is developed based on collaborative learning strategy in an authentic learning environment. Thus through AKSES application, studies are being carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the app and its impact towards competency of basic scientific process skills of preschool students, i.e. observation, classification and communication. Next, the competency patterns of the skills are generated. This study is a quantitative study which includes two instruments comprise of AKSES application and marking rubrics of preschool's basic scientific process skills. Based on the design of a quasi-experimental study, the provision for seven weeks of school have been allocated to implement the six learning activities. Quota sample selection of two rural preschools are 25 students for each controlled and treatment groups. Analysis of the survey data is carried out in the form of descriptive and inferential analysis involving Mann-Whitney U test. The Mann-Whitney U test analysis found significant differences in competency patterns of basic scientific process skills in both groups. Meanwhile, the competency patterns of basic scientific process skills indicated positive increase in all preschool students after the utilization of AKSES application in learning activities based on collaborative learning strategy in an authentic environment.

Begitu juga dalam mempelajari subjek sains komputer, guru-guru pelatih perlu mengalami latihan yang cukup dalam mempraktikkan segala yang dipelajari dan berkemahiran untuk diimplemenkan pada situasi yang realiti. Walaubagaimanapun, dalam memberi peluang kepada mereka untuk mempraktiskan secara realiti, wujud pula kekangan dalam menyediakan peralatan disamping memerlukan peruntukkan kos yang tinggi serta masa yang terhad bagi semua pelajar melakukan praktikal. Sebagai alternatif kepada permasalahan ini, penggunaan visualisasi yang efektif dan efisien sangat diperlukan agar pelajar dapat memvisualisasikan teori konsep yang dipelajari sekaligus mengalami pengalaman sepertimana pada situasi sebenar. Justeru itu, kajian ini ingin membangunkan sebuah sistem pembelajaran interaktif berasaskan ciri-ciri rekabentuk pembelajaran menerusi situasi dalam persekitaran autentik melalui pengaplikasian visualisasi agar pelajar secara langsung dapat menghubungkaitkan antara teoritikal yang dipelajari dengan praktikal yang dialami. Pembangunan sistem ini menggunakan model rekabentuk pengajaran ASSURE, manakala instrumen soal-selidik digunakan dalam mengenalpasti keberkesanan sistem ini. Diharapkan, melalui sistem berdasarkan pada pendekatan pembelajaran menerusi situasi dalam persekitaran autentik dan penggunaan visualisasi yang berkesan dapat membantu guru-guru pelatih belajar merekabentuk infrastruktur rangkaian komputer dengan lebih jelas lagi, seterusnya mampu mengaplikasikan pengetahuan mereka pada konteks yang realiti.

Secara khususnya, jika soalan yang dipaparkan adalah sukar bagi pelajar, maka item soalan seterusnya akan lebih mudah tahapnya. Kebaikannya, bagi pelajar yang mempunyai keupayaan tinggi kefahamannya tidak merasa bosan semasa menjawab soalan ujian yang diberikan, sementara bagi pelajar yang berkeupayaan rendah pula tidak merasa tertekan kerana mereka akan menjawab soalan pengkhususan yang bersesuaian dengan tahap kemampuan mereka. Kajian ini akan membangunkan sebuah koswer berdasarkan kepada strategi latih tubi yang merujuk kepada model rekabentuk pengajaran ADDIE dalam membantu pelajar mempelajari konsep pengaturcaraan komputer. Dengan pengaplikasian pengujian adaptif ini ia dapat memastikan para pelajar memperolehi item soalan ujian mengikut keupayaan mereka iaitu berdasarkan kepada tahap Taxanomy Bloom. Instrumen soal-selidik telah diguna-pakai dalam mengenalpasti kesediaan dan keyakinan pelajar dalam menggunakan koswer pengujan adaptif ini dan dapatan kemudiannya dianalisis menggunakan Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Hasil daripada penganalisaan data, didapati pelajar bersedia dan berasa yakin dalam menggunakan koswer ini kerana item soalan yang dijanakan adalah sesuai dengan tahap kemampuan pembelajaran mereka. Diharapkan kajian ini dapat membantu pelajar belajar dengan lebih efektif lagi disamping dapatan dari kajian ini berguna kepada penyelidikan lain dimasa hadapan.
