Travel: N I G E R I A 2014

6.27.2014

A little bit over 2 weeks ago, I lost my dad..... Still not ready to talk about it yet, but it is well. The purpose of this blog post is to share a few "sewing related" pictures with you that I took while I was in Nigeria for my dad's funeral. We had to find a tailor/seamstress that can sew our clothes, for the funeral, in ONE DAY. My sisters and I went to Gbagi Market in search of a seamstress and found the amazing lady in the picture above. She literally made 5 outfits (3 adult women and 2 girls) in just a few hours. She did use her assistants, but I was still amazed of how quickly she finished.

Travel: Philly Fabric Tour

6.08.2014

Last week, I had a chance to go on a Fabric Tour in Philadelphia, with The Sassy Sewer.. It was an amazing experience.. I spent a lot of money on Fabric, but not as much as I thought I would have spent. So I'm good. Lol I went with my sewing instructor (Blondell), her sewing friends, and other Sassy Sewer students. It was great to be on the trip with ladies that have an extensive knowledge in sewing.. Every time I'm around them, I just watch, pay attention, and soak in all the knowledge they're sharing. I learned a lot from them and I love the fact that I can share ideas with them and they give me feedback.

Fabric Uses Guideline

2.17.2014

Came across this on Pinterest and thought I'd share.

It's a general guideline for choosing fabric to use for different garments. This is very helpful especially for sewists that are still learning the different types of fabric and what you can do with them. This was created by Feathers Flights.

Tartan Flounce Dress

2.02.2014

McCall's Pattern 6886 Misses' Dress with a Little Flounce

2014 has been an awesome year so far.. I am so thankful for everything that God is doing in my life and the life of those around me. This year (already) I had the opportunity to collaborate with another awesome sewist Colette (@CocoBTaylor). Coco and I were asked to make a dress for the owner of Charm City Noir (a Baltimore Boutique) for the 2014 Grammys! Can you imagine how stoked I was? I of course saw it as a challenge, especially since I've never made a gown before. The final product was so amazingly beautiful and we were told that it was also comfortable enough to wear all day. Visit my instagram page @SewUrbaneto view pictures of the dress. Also follow @ShearBohld for future collaborations between Coco and Me.
