Velvet Jacquard

PATTERN REVIEW: MCCALL'S PATTERN 7047

PATTERN REVIEW: M7047

Pattern Description: Lined, pullover dresses with or without peplum have close-fitting bodice, back neckline, skirt (fitted through hips) and sleeve variations, and elasticized waist.

Pattern Sizing: I cut out a Size 14 and altered it to fit my body.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern once you were done sewing with it? Yes, I believe so.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Absolutely, pretty straight forward.

What did you particularly like about the pattern? It was a quick and easy make, with no zipper. I love the cowl neckline and the fact that you can mix and match the pattern to make a style that suits you.

Fabric Used: Rose Velvet Jacquard, from Joann's

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  I made view D and added the sleeves and peplum from view C. I also added some curves to the skirt so it can be more fitted. And lastly I took about 2-3 inches off the train.

Would you sew it again? Yes, most definitely.. Might use black sequins fabric next time.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes, it's easy to make.

Where did you wear it to? Wore it to a wedding in Tennessee. Received lots of compliments. :)

I Appreciate YOU for Stopping by..

PATTERN REVIEW: MCCALL'S PATTERN 7737

Hello loves.. Happy Friday the 13th! Finally had the chance to blog about one of my favorite Me Made jackets. When I first saw McCall's Pattern 7737, I loved it because of the View A short jacket. I wanted to make it in a beautiful Red fabric.  A few days later, I changed my mind and wanted to make the floor length version of View C, in bright Pink. I was so excited and was already planning how I'd like to style it, until I couldn't find the right shade of pink I liked.. So while walking around in circles at Joann's, I came across this gorgeous brocade fabric and I just knew that this was the fabric I needed to use.. Asked the hubs for a second opinion, and he said, "Yesssssssss." And of course, new fabric meant I needed to rethink my design idea.. (the fabric tells you what it wants to be.. ;))

PATTERN REVIEW: M7730

Pattern Description: The pattern is for Loose fitting lined jackets that have length and sleeve variations. There's also an option for side or patch pockets for the long jackets.

Pattern Sizing: I cut out the Pattern Size 12 for the Body of the Jacket and a size 14 for the sleeves (needed more room)

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern once you were done sewing with it? I think it was pretty close..

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, the instructions were easy. Thought the sleeves were going to be complicated but it wasn't.

What did you particularly like about the pattern? I love the sleeves.. They look regal.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  I made View B with View C's length..

Would you sew it again? Yes, once I find the right shade of pink fabric I was looking for, I will be making the floor length version in the fall.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes, definitely a must make.. It will look great in solid or print fabric.

Thank YOU for stopping by...

Empowered Sleeves

3.08.2018

PATTERN REVIEW: MCCALL'S PATTERN 7627

HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY!!
You Are Amazing, You Are Beautiful, You Are Smart, You Are A Child of God, and You Can Do Anything You Want to Do!! This is what I've always believed and lived by, thanks to some of the amazing women that have looked out for me all through the years. And this is what I try to instill in every girl and women around me. We have to continue to empower each other not matter what.

Empowered. This is what I felt when I wore this top. I literally felt like I could conquer the world, especially after tackling those sleeves. The top is absolutely beautiful and I was glad to finally use this print that I have kept for years.

PATTERN REVIEW: M7627

Pattern Description: Misses' Wrap Tops and Dresses with Waist Tie. Fitted tops and dresses have sleeve and length variations.

Pattern Sizing: I cut out the Pattern Size 14 (I should have went smaller).. I think the size runs big a little, especially in the bust area.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the website once you were done sewing with it? I believe so..

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, the instructions were pretty easy to follow.

What did you particularly like about the pattern? I love the sleeves.. They are so beautiful.

Fabric Used: African Print from the Stash.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:  No alteration made. The only thing I did was fold and stitch the tuck before sewing the seam on the sleeves. This made it easier to stitch the tuck and press the sleeves.

Would you sew it again? Yes, I will, but in a small size and maybe a solid color fabric.

Would you recommend it to others? Yes, definitely a must have. It's also trendy.

Here's to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.

DC Nights: Ankara Jumpsuit

8.17.2014

What I Wore: Ankara Jumpsuit
McCall's Pattern 6969

Hi Everyone! I wanted to quickly give a review about this fabulous ankara jumpsuit I made. I actually made it about a week or two ago but didn't have anywhere to wear it to, until this weekend. Ola "#thebae" and I went to DC to celebrate one of my friends' birthday. After the birthday dinner, at SEI, Ola and I decided to take a stroll at the National Mall. I love walking at the National Mall at night, it's pretty quiet and peaceful. My friends and I used to hang out there a lot when I lived in NoVA. So I was super excited to share that experience with Ola.

PATTERN REVIEW (M6969)
Ok back to the jumpsuit.. It is semi-fitted with a front button closure. It has elastic at the waist and lower edge. I cut out a size XS of view C. It was pretty easy to make and the directions were pretty straight forward. My favorite part of the jumpsuit was having the elastic at the hem of the pants. It made the whole outfit look super hip.

Fabric Used: Ankara

Pattern Alteration: I didn't change anything on the pattern, but after I put on the jumpsuit, I didn't like the look with the top button closed. So I opened it and fold both sides over to make a lapel.

...by the way, I made my jumpsuit using the Juki Excite HZL-G210

V-Back Kente Tank Top

6.09.2014

What I Wore: Philly Fabric Tour

So the night before the Fabric Tour I couldn't sleep.. I think it's because I was so excited about going to the Fabric Tour. I kept thinking about things I would like to sew in the future and started looking at inspirations. Then the idea to make something to wear on the trip came to my head, so I started thinking about fast and easy things to make because I didn't want to stay up all night sewing. I decided to make another version of the Cross Back Ankara Tank Top I made for memorial day. But instead of a cross-back, I made a v-back.

Cross-Back Ankara Tank Top

5.29.2014

What I Wore: Memorial Day

On Memorial Day, I woke thinking about what I wanted to wear to the "All Things Nigerian" event in Silver Spring, MD. I wanted to wear something comfortable and simple. Something I can throw on top of my jeans/skirt with some flats and keep it moving. I decided to make the cross-back tank top below using Ankara Fabric. It was quick and easy to make and only took me about 1.5 to 2 hours to make from cutting the finishing.

Purple Pleats

4.09.2014

I made this skirt for the Super Thursday: In Full Bloom event, held at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore (Blog Post coming really soon). I actually made it the morning before the event because I couldn't think of anything else to wear. I'm starting to think that Purple is my new favorite color. Seems like I've been making a lot of garments in purple lately and I've been attracted to purple garments.

Tartan Flounce Dress

2.02.2014

McCall's Pattern 6886 Misses' Dress with a Little Flounce

2014 has been an awesome year so far.. I am so thankful for everything that God is doing in my life and the life of those around me. This year (already) I had the opportunity to collaborate with another awesome sewist Colette (@CocoBTaylor). Coco and I were asked to make a dress for the owner of Charm City Noir (a Baltimore Boutique) for the 2014 Grammys! Can you imagine how stoked I was? I of course saw it as a challenge, especially since I've never made a gown before. The final product was so amazingly beautiful and we were told that it was also comfortable enough to wear all day. Visit my instagram page @SewUrbaneto view pictures of the dress. Also follow @ShearBohld for future collaborations between Coco and Me.
