Edward Boxler was born in Toronto, Ontario, the eldest of two brothers. His father owned a printing company while his mother stayed at home to take care of him and his brother. Edward was raised in Willowdale, an upper class suburb in the borough of North York. He was educated at Brebeuf College School.
Most of his teenage years were spent on the tennis courts. After serious deliberations about training to be a pro athlete, Edward decided instead to pursue an English major at York University. He worked several part time jobs, one as a background actor, for a number of years. This lead to an interest in the filmmaking process. He spent much of his twenties learning the filmmaking craft as a hobby, making dozens of digitally shot short films and backpacking travelogues while working full time in merchandising and fitness.
In 2011, Edward got his first screenwriting job on a short film called Thrown Away Yesterday (2011). His work landed him a position writing web content for a small production house.
In 2014, Edward directed his first short film, the fairy tale-influenced zombie film Forbidden Fruit (2014). He successfully directed the film's child star to a performance award at the Lost Episode Film Festival in Toronto. This was followed up the subsequent year with the award winning Thank You (2015), a psychological thriller that garnered the Audience Choice award for Best Short Film at the same festival.
Since then, Edward has directed several commercials, music videos for local bands, and is working on his first feature film.
