I was born in 1975 and grew up in the eighties. While growing up my twin brother and I had a problem reading. We were teased a lot, so our desire to not read grew faster. The years grew on and our reading skills did not get better. When we became adults, it became a big problem to do the things we wanted without reading. Acting became our passion, doing auditions and cold reads presented a challenge. People would wonder how we could not be able to read at our age.
After I got out of the Navy in 1999, I was in a serious car accident, where I received brain damage. It was almost like starting over, kind of like a child again. I became more creative and my brain absorbed certain things like a sponge. In my new learning experience the subject was reading. I started reading more and what I read I was able to comprehend easier than before. So I went back to school and got my Associate's in Criminal Justice. And instead of getting A's and B's in Math and Science and D's and F's in English. I got A's and B's in everything this time. I went from a 1.91 GPA in High School to a 3.91 GPA in College. Finally I was reading very well and even started enjoying it too.
It's never too late to transform yourself into a better you. One piece of advice I like to give people is; " The best thing to invest in is not stocks or bonds. It's yourself... through teachings, training, and practice.
