Izaskun Uranga
Third of the nine children that formed the Uranga family, well known in
Bilbao, she has always liked singing. Being a teenager, she formed a
group with her sisters Amaya and Estíbaliz, Las Hermanas Uranga (The
Uranga Sisters), playing folk music her father had taught them when
being little.
During one of their concerts, they met the Blanco brothers, Sergio and Rafael, and some other guys, with whom they formed a new group, Voces y Guitarras, featuring the Uranga sisters, their brother Roberto, Sergio and Rafael Blanco, and three others, one of which left in 1969 due to the military service.
In 1969, the group became Mocedades and they released their first album of 20. Izaskum was part of this group and never left it despite many changes of members in the group.
She usually did the background vocals and some second vocals with her sister Amaya, but in 1972, she recorded a song being the lead singer, "Rin Ron". She has been the lead singer in a few song or at least for half of the song. In 1974 for the album Mocedades 5, she recorded "Red River Valley" as the lead singer and she sang "Eu so quero um xodo" along with her sister Amaya in a perfect duet. In 1975, she sang three songs in a perfect duo with her sister Amaya, "Goizaldean" "El afilador" and "Que pasará mañana". In 1977, she was again lead singer in a duo with José Ipiña for the song "De puro mío tu cuerpo" included in the album Mocedades 8. Again in 1978 she was lead singer in "Iruten", included in the album Kantaldia. Other songs she sang as al lead singer are "The more I see you", "Love me tender", "Dibujando Amor", "Tiempo de Vals", "Donde estés tú", "Vivir sin ti" and "Hijo del corazón".
In December 1973, she married the leader of a rock band, Juan Ruiz, with whom she had a daughter, Macarena Ruiz Uranga, in May 1978. This obliged the group to call her sister Idoia to stand in until she was ready to rejoin the group for the concerts.
In 1982, during the recording of the album Amor de hombre, she suffered from a severe lumbago, so her sister Idoia stood in again for the recording of many songs of the album. She rejoined the group some months after with an important outweigh. She recovered from this outweigh little by little during the next three years.
In 1999, she had an accident which make her stay away from the group, but this time some of the members waited for her to recover, the others left the group.
After many changes of members in the group, she decided to play the lead singer for some of the songs where her sister Amaya was the lead singer: "Charango", "Has perdido tu tren", "Desde que tú te has ido", "Quién te cantará" and "La guerra cruel".
Since she is the only historic member with Javier Garay in the group Mocedades nowadays, she is the reference for the fans as Amaya was for 15 years. She was already a reference for the public since 1994 when the only historic members left were her and Javier Garay.
