He was captain of the West Indies cricket team which dominated all
rivals from the mid-70s until his retirement from the international
scene in 1985. He played in 110 Test matches and 87 one-day
internationals and lifted the World Cup in 1975 and 1979 but lost in
the finals of the 1983 World Cup to India. He also played county
cricket for Lancashire in England. In the 90s, he was coach and also
manager of the West Indies team. He managed the West Indies team in the
1999 World cup with little success.
