Eddy Asselbergs was born on 3 May 1943 in Merksem, Antwerp, Belgium. In the 1990s he was at his peak as an actor in Flanders, Belgium. With lead roles in two soap series, Wittekerke (1993) as innkeeper Marcel Deleu and Familie (1991) as fashion designer Gerard Van de Caveye, he was an indispensable part of the small screen for a long time. In 2001, he quit acting and withdrew from the spotlights. Asselbergs has a few important credits as a screenwriter to his name as well, including Wittekerke (56 titles) in which he starred himself and the sitcoms Benidorm (1989) (26 titles) and F.C. De Kampioenen (1990) (2 titles). For the latter he wrote under the alias Collectief Foks. He was previously married with fellow Antwerp based actress Marilou Mermans with whom he has a daughter.
