Its a shame that this show is coming to an end.
However, it is no shame the way it is ending!
From episode one, I knew I was getting a good show. Jake/Samantha brought a solid American representation needed for a Japanese based show to really succeed on HBO, the ALWAYS fantastic Ken Watanabe as the lead Vice officer, the reporters at The Meicho, all the Yakuza (Sato for me specifically)
Their characters were all interesting, yet such small blips in the Japanese culture. Along the way they all grew so much, shed their relative cloak of innocence and reached the point of no return. Sato from young man to Oyabun, Samantha from employee to club owner, Jake from starry eyed young reporter to pretty much the exact same guy, Tozawa from street thug to possible leader of Japan and so many smaller characters along the way.
Miki Maya as the female detective a special shoutout, she killed it bringing new life into Kens beaten down character.
This episode was the culmination of all the character development that came before. The corruption levels have all been exposed, everyone knows where they stand, there is nowhere to hide, the only option is confrontation.
