This series is so short that one might ask why devote an entire episode to Calvin when there is so much going on? I agree that there should have been a bit less of the religious exchanges between Calvin and Wakely. I agree that the writers have been true to Calvin's beliefs (or lack of them). This religious discussion was going nowhere. I will not push my beliefs, but I find so many people of faith condescending when all they have is something that they have been taught without empirical evidence. But this isn't a forum. The friendship between a couple of opposite thinkers is a good touch, and the coincidence of Mad gaining understanding from a man who doesn't realize until much later her late father was his friend. Elizabeth finally realizes that to withhold the truth from her daughter was thoughtless and cruel. Things do get a bit syrupy, but the scene at the church school says it all. Excellent episode.
