The body of a young man Luke Sumner is found. He worked for a contract cleaning company, his father had been murdered several years earlier.
Luke had received a bash in the head but had died several hours later, not knowing a bleed in his brain made him a dead man walking.
As always with Vera. The murder investigation is an intricate puzzle that splinters off in different directions.
Luke's employers were not as saintly as they paint themselves out to be. I was surprised that Vera did not comprehend a big clue about them. The high rate of staff turnover!
However an ex girlfriend called Luke a stalker, then his father's killer applied for parole and Luke had an argument with the killer's brother. Then there was something about Luke's actions such as needing to cleanse himself.
Given the entanglement, the mystery was elegantly presented even though it was grim and sad overall. I think Vera showed a lot of empathy with Luke's mother who lost her husband and now her son.
