Cry Mercy

Stuart Canterbury made many well-crafted Adult films over the years and with "Cry Mercy" for his own banner experimented with bringing the niche bondage/fetish video genre into the mainstream. I think it's quite successful, though has apparently had no effect or impact on either end of the Adult spectrum in the decade since it was issued.

Perhaps the defect here for inveterate fans of fetish is that they prefer their stuff unadulterated, that is, without conventional sex added. It is true that the most popular fetish videos are either strictly soft-core (pure tease) as in FM Concepts and Harmony Concepts releases, or penetration spectacles as one gets with Bizarre video releases and the "House of Taboo" European product. Adam & Eve hits by Ernest Greene and Nick Orleans are obvious exceptions.

Monica Mayhem, with dark hair rather than her trademark blonde tresses, is fabulous as a dominatrix who brings otherwise happily married man Trevor Thompson under her sway. His wife Angela Stone suffers, but the movie seems to endorse his infidelity, certainly having mercy on him by show's end.

The XXX content is well-done and in keeping with any mainstream show of a decade ago, but Canterbury carefully adds lots of fetish content to the package as well. Notable is casting of Angela Stone, an icon of Squirting before that gimmick became so widespread as it is now, and her vertical fountains of Golden Showers onto hubby Trevor are certainly an eye-opener in the eartly reels. And remember, she is cast in the "poor abandoned wife" role, not in any of the fetish assignments.

Evan Stone pops up in an orgy scene when Monica takes her sex slave Trevor to an underground club for entertainment, and the cast mixes other lovelies from both camps including bondage icon Daryn Darby and gonzo actress Angel Valentine.

Definitely an obscure title worth seeking out for both its quality and historical significance in bucking the silo-ed industry trends.
