It's obvious, as demonstrated in this Vivid Video, why Ashlyn Gere is among the all-time great Adult Cinema actresses, right up there with the likes of Veronica Hart. She plays strong characters, not the fantasy Barbie Doll woman that most porn superstars represent. And she has real acting chops that crossed over (albeit only in minor roles) to mainstream appearances.
This feature demonstrates the sophistication that Paul Thomas as director brought to porn. Sure, he may have made many gonzo videos along the way, but he also emphasized real movies (with explicit sex in them), that had real characters and performances.
Ariel Hart's screenplay takes an unusual look at at love triangle in what amounts to a 3-character film (plus several other players strictly featured in silent pantomime sex scenes).
For starters, it's unfortunate that the Story Summary in IMDb is direct from the Vivid box cover, intentionally and entirely misleading. Gere and Jonathan Morgan are lovers, with Steve Drake as their best friend. Story revolves around Drake's interest in Gere, who he met with Morgan at the same time, but it was Morgan who made the first move and she became his girlfriend, not Drake's.
Film's title stems from Drake's philosophy of anonymity: he only dates women without any deep connection: one night stands with no names exchanged. So his lingering desire for Gere remains frustratingly unresolved, especially since as a friend he confides in her and she constantly tempts him.
The three actors do a bang-up job of bringing these characters to life, and Thomas maintains a highly romantic, seductive atmosphere throughout. Key elements of Ariel's screenplay would play quite well in a mainstream rom-com, but PT delivers hot sex as well.
