Merv Griffin had once been the "house singer" on a show hosted by Robert Q. Lewis, whose trademark was a pair of black-framed glasses. The two men never got along, and had a decades-long rivalry. When Lewis substituted for Griffin as host of this game show, Griffin cattily explained why Lewis was not his equal, remarking: "Old four-year just didn't have what the public wanted - l did!"
