In the final scene, Arliss asks Donny: "Who plays the gay guy on 'Spin City?'" a reference to the ABC Sitcom which ran from 1996-2002. Donny answers that it's "Boatman, Jimmy Boatman." This is a joking reference to actor Michael Boatman, who plays the character Carter Heywood on Spin City but who was also a series regular on Arliss, playing Stanley Babson.
