Vertical Slit

Slit & Pre-Slit (1977/2010)

"Slit And Pre-Slit was Jim Shepard’s first ever release, privately pressed in an edition of only 100 copies in 1977 and mostly given away to friends and musical/cultural heroes like Lester Bangs, Todd Rundgren, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Brian Eno, John Cale etc. Its extreme rarity has meant that few have had the chance to wrap their ears around it, but those in the know have consistently pronounced it Shepard’s best."

James Ferraro

On Air (2010)

Feed Me (2010)

"I think aspects of human culture that some people regard as unimportant actually operate within a really deep system of ancient symbolism and human archetypes. Hard rock Cafes, strip clubs, gyms, celebrities, etc, are all great examples of this, of roadside temples. My albums are like downloads from that body of information." -James Ferraro in an interview for the Wire.

The Tape-Beatles

The Tape-beatles - Music With Sound (1991)

''Beginning with analog tape recorders, and later expanding to include digital technology and film media the group has used collage techniques to create works that challenge the notion of ''intellectual property''. Their works make extensive use of materials appropriated from various sources through a process they call "plagiarism".
The group's initial focus was to create music that made use of techniques borrowed from musique concrete, but applied to popular music context. To this end, they eschewed conventional musical instruments, instead contending that tape recording and the recording studio itself was their instrument.''

Caroliner

All the records Caroliner make are pushed into handmade sleeves, as you can see above (most of the time a plain sleeve with hand colored drawings pasted on them) and always come with hand written lyric sheets.
The use of traditional instruments and styles, often combined with harsh noise, avant garde like drumming and rattling vocals, make Caroliner - Rise of the Common Woodpile an album full of weird and stupid music which, is to a lot of people, totally unstructured but listen close and you will hear, how weird it might sound, songs. that why those lyric sheets are there, to make the listener aware of the fact that they are listing to songs not to some weird improvised mess.
It's like avant-everything.

Their Music combinded ''traditional intrumentation with electronic and machine-based rhythm and sound. the structuring of the songs, the concept, lyrical themes and content, all are unique, persomal and provoking of thought, feelings and emotion.''
