Black (and White) Friday: "The Caretaker" by Toomey and Alcala

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! Tuckered out from all that turkey? Getting ready to do pitched battle for that marked-down must-have item from your fave store? Or just finished that self-same battle? Then kick back and relax, baby! Ol' Groove has got ya covered! Here's a sci-fi classic from Bob Toomey and Alfredo Alcala from the fabulous Creepy #104 (November 1978) that is sure to give you the respite you need...'cause what you need is..."The Caretaker"!

Black and White Wednesday: "Growing Pains" by Toomey and Zeck

What it is, Groove-ophiles! Today's tale, written by Bob Toomey, is a weeeeeeeeird one. Dunno if his kids or grandkids had given him a rough night's sleep or what--or maybe he'd been inspired by that Bugs Bunny episode with the midget bank robber posing as a baby. Still, artist Mike Zeck comes through like a champ with lovely, tasteful art and gorgeous gray tones. From Eerie #108 (cover-dated January 1980), prepare to suffer from..."Growing Pains"!

Black and White Wednesday: "Quirks" by Toomey, Simonson, and Austin

Dig it, Groove-ophiles! When you flip through your Creepy back issues, you're bound to find some really cool stuff. Take f'rinstance Creepy #107 (cover-dated May 1979), a special sci-fi ish. Tons of great stuff there, but the story that really made Teen Groove's pulse pound was "Quirks" by the fantastic creative team of writer Bob Toomey and artists Walt Simonson and Terry Austin.

Sometimes it's better to have good taste than to taste good, baby!!

Black and White Wednesday: "Keep Kool" by Toomey and Nino

What it is, Groove-ophiles! Here's another far-out sci-fi shocker from the "Robots" issue of Creepy #104 (December 1978). "Keep Kool" was written by Bob Toomey and illustrated by Alex Nino. That should be enough to get your pulse pounding, baby!

Black and White Wednesday: "Relic" by Toomey and Simonson

Warren's Creepy #112 (cover dated October 1979) was a great mag with over a half-dozen black and white shockers between its four-color covers. For a story to stand out in a mag filled with strips by talents like Archie Goodwin, Al Williamson, John Severin, and Alex Nino? It's gotta be something special. I think Bob Toomey and Walt Simonson's "Relic" fills the bill. What do you think, Groove-ophiles?
