Es un esquiador retirado que ganó una Medalla en el Campeonato del Mundo de plata y obtuvo cuatro victorias en la Copa del Mundo de Esquí Alpino (con un total de 18 pódiums). Además, fue jugador de fútbol profesional que jugó en el FC Balzers de la liga suiza. También fue internacional con Liechtenstein en veinte ocasiones. - Marco Büchel (born 4 November 1971 in Walenstadt, Switzerland) is a retired alpine ski racer from Liechtenstein. He participated in a record-tying six Winter Olympics, starting in 1992 and ending in 2010. On 18 January 2008, Büchel won a World Cup Super-G race at Kitzbühel, and set a then record as the oldest winner of a World Cup race at the age of 36 years, 75 days. This has since been surpassed by Didier Cuche, who won a downhill race at the same location on 22 January 2011 to set a new record as the oldest winner of a World Cup race; the following 13 months Cuche extended this record 6 times, finally with his last career victory in the Super-G of Crans Montana on 24 February 2012 to 37 years, 192 days. Büchel is featured in the OL-floka music video for the 1994 Winter Olympics. He's seen climbing upwards in the combined slalom course, after missing a gate. Büchel retired following the Super-G race at Garmisch-Partenkirchen (Germany) on 11 March 2010. He celebrated his last race by racing not in the regular catsuit, but by wearing a tuxedo with black Bermuda shorts. As he skied down the course, Büchel slowed down many times to "high-five" various trainers. He had also appeared on The Amazing Race 18 as contestants had to give him the correct answer for calculating the Length of Liechtenstein. During his retirement, Büchel frequents South Florida, where he has many American friends. (en)

- Marco Büchel (Walenstadt, Zwitserland, 4 november 1971) is een Liechtensteins voormalig alpineskiër. Büchels eerste wedstrijd in de ski-wereldcup was in 1994. Het duurde drie jaar voordat hij zich de eerste keer onder de beste tien kon kwalificeren. Daarna werden zijn prestaties constanter en haalde hij ook enige malen het podium. Het grootste succes van zijn carrière behaalde hij bij de Alpine wereldkampioenschappen van 1999 in Vail, Beaver Creek toen hij in reuzenslalom achter de Noor Lasse Kjus tweede werd. Op 23 februari 2003 won hij de Super G van Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Büchel deed drie keer mee aan de Olympische Winterspelen. Tijdens Lillehammer 1994 werd hij 40e op de afdaling en 32e op de Super G. In de uitslag van de reuzenslalom kwam hij niet voor, omdat hij niet finishte tijdens de tweede manche. Op de combinatie werd Büchel 33e en laatste. Op de slalom startte hij niet. Op de afdaling in Salt Lake City 2002 werd Büchel gedeeld 29e. Op de reuzenslalom werd hij 17e en op de Super G gedeeld 13e. Tijdens Turijn 2006 op de afdaling werd hij 7e, tijdens de Super G 6e. Op de reuzenslalom deelde hij wel mee, maar finishte al niet in de eerste mange. Zijn beste skiresultaat was op 17 december 2005 in Val Gardena toen hij als tweede Liechtensteiner, 12 jaar na , de afdaling won. Zijn beste resultaat in seizoen 2005/06 was een tweede plaats bij de afdaling van Kitzbühel (de Hahnenkamm) op 21 januari 2006. Seizoen 2006/07 begon voor Büchel op een goede wijze, omdat hij de eerste wereldbekerwedstrijd – de afdaling in Lake Louise, Canada – won. In 2008 meldde hij zich weer vooraan met de winst van de Super-G in Kitzbühel op 18 januari. Büchel werd tussen 1997 en 1999 drie keer achter elkaar Liechtensteins sporter van het jaar. (nl)
