Linac Design within HITRIplus for Particle Therapy / Ratzinger, Ulrich (Unlisted, DE) ; Höltermann, Holger (Unlisted, DE) ; Koubek, Benjamin (Unlisted, DE) ; Podlech, Holger (Unlisted, DE) ; Vretenar, Maurizio (CERN)
Within the EU Horizon 2020 programme a linac was designed, which is starting from the concept as used at the 4 European cancer therapy centers applying light ions up to carbon. The new linac will in its simpliest version allow ion beam injection into synchrotrons at 5 A MeV, with high beam transmission and allowing currents up to 5 mA 𝛼 - particles. [...]

Emittance reconstruction techniques in presence of space charge applied during the Linac4 beam commissioning / Dimov, Veliko (CERN) ; Gaur, Rahul (Raja Ramanna Ctr.) ; Lallement, Jean-Baptiste (CERN) ; Lombardi, Alessandra (CERN)
The classical emittance reconstruction technique, based on analytic calculations using transfer matrices and beam profile measurements, is reliable only if the emittance is conserved and the space charge forces are negligible in the beamline between the reconstruction and measurement points. The effects of space charge forces prevent this method from giving sound results up to a relativistic beta of about 0.5 and make it inapplicable to the Linac4 commissioning at 50 and 100 MeV. [...]

High-frequency compact RFQs for medical and industrial applications / Vretenar, Maurizio (CERN) ; Dimov, Veliko (CERN) ; Garlaschè, Marco (CERN) ; Grudiev, Alexej (CERN) ; Koubek, Benjamin (CERN) ; Lombardi, Alessandra (CERN) ; Mathot, Serge (CERN) ; Mazur, David (CERN) ; Montesinos, Eric (CERN) ; Timmins, Marc (CERN)
CERN has completed the construction of a 750 MHz RFQ reaching 5 MeV proton energy in a length of only 2 meters, to be used as injector for a compact proton therapy linac. Beyond proton therapy, this compact and lightweight design can be used for several applications, ranging from the production of radioisotopes in hospitals to ion beam analysis of industrial components or of artworks.
