High luminosity fixed-target experiment at the LHC / Hadjidakis, Cynthia (Orsay, IPN) ; Brodsky, S.J. (SLAC) ; Cavoto, G. (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; Da Silva, C. (Los Alamos) ; Donato, F. (Turin U. ; INFN, Turin) ; Echevarria, M.G. (INFN, Pavia) ; Ferreiro, E.G. (Santiago de Compostela U.) ; Hřivnáčová, I. (Orsay, IPN) ; Kikola, D. (Warsaw U. of Tech.) ; Klein, A. (Los Alamos) et al.
By extracting the beam with a bent crystal or by using an internal gas target, the multi-TeV proton and lead LHC beams allow one to perform the most energetic fixed-target experiments ever and to study $pp$, $p$d and $p$A collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=115$ GeV and Pb$p$ and PbA collisions at $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=72$ GeV with high precision and modern detection techniques. Such studies would address open questions in the domain of the nucleon and nucleus partonic structure at high-$x$, quark-gluon plasma and, by using longitudinally or transversally polarised targets, spin physics. Preliminary results on the $^{233}U$ capture cross section and alpha ratio measured at n_TOF (CERN) with the fission tagging technique / Bacak, M (CERN ; IRFU, Saclay ; TU Vienna) ; Aiche, M (CENBG, Gradignan) ; Bélier, G (CEA DAM) ; Berthoumieux, E (IRFU, Saclay) ; Diakaki, M (IRFU, Saclay ; U. $^{233}$U is of key importance among the fissile nuclei in the Th-U fuel cycle. A particularity of 233U is its small neutron capture cross-section, which is on average about one order of magnitude lower than the fission cross-section. [...]
