Precise predictions for same-sign W-boson scattering at the LHC
/ Ballestrero, Alessandro (INFN, Turin) ; Biedermann, Benedikt (Wurzburg U.) ; Brass, Simon (Siegen U.) ; Denner, Ansgar (Wurzburg U.) ; Dittmaier, Stefan (Freiburg U.) ; Frederix, Rikkert (Munich, Tech. Vector-boson scattering processes are of great importance for the current run-II and future runs of the Large Hadron Collider. The presence of triple and quartic gauge couplings in the process gives access to the gauge sector of the Standard Model (SM) and possible new-physics contributions there. [...]

Analytic integration of soft and collinear radiation in factorised QCD cross sections at NNLO
/ Magnea, Lorenzo (CERN ; Turin U. ; INFN, Turin) ; Pelliccioli, Giovanni (Wurzburg U.) ; Signorile-Signorile, Chiara (Turin U. ; INFN, Turin ; KIT, Karlsruhe, Dept. Phys.) ; Torrielli, Paolo (Turin U. ; INFN, Turin) ; Uccirati, Sandro (Turin U. ; INFN, Turin)
Within the framework of local analytic sector subtraction, we present the full analytic integration of double-real and real-virtual local infrared counterterms that enter NNLO QCD computations with any number of massless final-state partons. We show that a careful choice of phase-space mappings leads to simple analytic results, including non-singular terms, that can be obtained with conventional integration techniques..

Vector Boson Scattering Processes: Status and Prospects
/ Buarque Franzosi, Diogo (Chalmers U. Tech. ; Goteborg, ITP) ; Gallinaro, Michele (LIP, Lisbon) ; Ruiz, Richard (Cracow, INP) ; Aarrestad, Thea K. Insight into the electroweak (EW) and Higgs sectors can be achieved through measurements of vector boson scattering (VBS) processes. The scattering of EW bosons are rare processes that are precisely predicted in the Standard Model (SM) and are closely related to the Higgs mechanism. [...]

High-rate tests on Resistive Plate Chambers operated with eco-friendly gas mixtures
/ RPC ECOGas@GIF++ Collaboration
Results obtained by the RPC ECOgas@GIF++ Collaboration, using Resistive Plate Chambers operated with new, eco-friendly gas mixtures, based on Tetrafluoropropene and carbon dioxide, are shown and discussed in this paper. Tests aimed to assess the performance of this kind of detectors in high-irradiation conditions, analogous to the ones foreseen for the coming years at the Large Hadron Collider experiments, were performed, and demonstrate a performance basically similar to the one obtained with the gas mixtures currently in use, based on Tetrafluoroethane, which is being progressively phased out for its possible contribution to the greenhouse effect. Characterization of the ATLAS Micromegas quadruplet prototype
/ Sidiropoulou, O (CERN ; Wurzburg U.) ; Bianco, M (CERN) ; Danielsson, H (CERN) ; Degrange, J (CERN) ; Farina, E M (CERN ; INFN, Pavia ; Pavia U.) ; Gomez, F P (CERN) ; Iengo, P (CERN) ; Kuger, F (CERN ; Wurzburg U.) ; Lin, T H (Mainz U., Inst. Phys.) ; Schott, M (Mainz U., Inst. Phys.) et al.
A Micromegas [1] detector with four active layers, serving as prototype for the upgrade of the ATLAS muon spectrometer [2] , was designed and constructed in 2014 at CERN and represents the first example of a Micromegas quadruplet ever built. The detector has been realized using the resistive-strip technology and decoupling the amplification mesh from the readout structure. [...]
