The ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider has a tigger system designed to keep high effiency for interesting events while achieving a rejection of low transverse momentum physics of about 10^7, thus reaching the ¬200 events/s storage capability of the Data Aquisition system. A three-levels structure has been implemented for this purpose, as described in this work for the case of the muon trigger system. [...]

Technical Design Report for the Phase-I Upgrade of the ATLAS TDAQ System
/ ATLAS Collaboration
The Phase-I upgrade of the ATLAS Trigger and Data Acquisition (TDAQ) system is to allow the ATLAS experiment to efficiently trigger and record data at instantaneous luminosities that are up to three times that of the original LHC design while maintaining trigger thresholds close to those used in the initial run of the LHC..

An RPC-based Technical Trigger for the CMS Experiment
/ CMS Collaboration
In the CMS experiment, sub-detectors may send special trigger signals, called "Technical Triggers", for special purposes like test and calibration. The Resistive Plate Chambers are part of the Muon Trigger System of the experiment, but might also produce a cosmic muon trigger as Technical Trigger to be used during the commissioning to the detectors, the CMS magnet Test Cosmic Challenge and the later running of CMS. / Anulli, F (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; Ciapetti, G (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; De Pedis, D (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; Di Girolamo, A (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; Luci, C (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; Nisati, A (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; Pasqualucci, E (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; Pastore, F (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; Petrolo, E (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) ; Rosati, S (INFN, Rome ; Rome U.) et al.
The ATLAS Level-1 Muon Barrel Trigger is one of the main elements of the first stage of event selection of the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The challenge of the Level-1 system is a reduction of the event rate from a collision rate of $40~MHz$ by a factor $10^3$, using simple algorithms that can be executed in highly parallel custom electronics with a latency of order of $1~mu s$.
