Ionizing Energy Depositions After Fast Neutron Interactions in Silicon
/ Bergmann, Benedikt (IEAP CTU, Prague) ; Pospisil, Stanislav (IEAP CTU, Prague) ; Caicedo, Ivan (IEAP CTU, Prague) ; Kierstead, James (Brookhaven) ; Takai, Helio (Brookhaven) ; Frojdh, Erik (CERN)
In this study we present the ionizing energy depositions in a 300 μm thick silicon layer after fast neutron impact. With the Time-of-Flight (ToF) technique, the ionizing energy deposition spectra of recoil silicons and secondary charged particles were assigned to (quasi-)monoenergetic neutron energies in the range from 180 keV to hundreds of MeV. Readout cross-talk for alpha-particle measurements in a pixelated sensor system

Simulations in Medici are performed to quantify crosstalk and charge sharing in a hybrid pixelated silicon detector. Crosstalk and charge sharing degrades the spatial and spectral resolution of single photon processing X-ray imaging systems. [...]

Equalization method for Medipix3RX
/ Rinkel, Jean (LNLS, Campinas) ; Magalhães, Debora (LNLS, Campinas) ; Wagner, Franz (LNLS, Campinas) ; Frojdh, Erik (CERN) ; Ballabriga Sune, Rafael (CERN)
This paper describes a new method of threshold equalization for X-ray detectors based on the Medipix3RX ASIC, using electrical pulses to calibrate and correct for the threshold dispersion between pixels. This method involves a coarse threshold tuning, based on two 8 bits global DACs and which sets the range of variation of the threshold values; and a fine-tuning, based on two 5-bits adjustment DACs per pixel. Timepix3: first measurements and characterization of a hybrid-pixel detector working in event driven mode

Timepix3 is a hybrid pixel detector readout chip. It features a data driven readout mode where the chip sends out a data packet containing pixel coordinate, time over threshold and time of arrival immediately after the hit is processed by the pixel. [...]

Review of hybrid pixel detector readout ASICs for spectroscopic X-ray imaging
/ Ballabriga, R (CERN) ; Alozy, J (CERN) ; Campbell, M (CERN) ; Frojdh, E (CERN) ; Heijne, E H M (CERN ; IEAP CTU, Prague) ; Koenig, T (KIT, Karlsruhe) ; Llopart, X (CERN) ; Marchal, J (Diamond Light Source) ; Pennicard, D (DESY) ; Poikela, T (CERN) et al.
Semiconductor detector readout chips with pulse processing electronics have made possible spectroscopic X-ray imaging, bringing an improvement in the overall image quality and, in the case of medical imaging, a reduction in the X-ray dose delivered to the patient. In this contribution we review the state of the art in semiconductor-detector readout ASICs for spectroscopic X-ray imaging with emphasis on hybrid pixel detector technology. [...]

A Geant4 based framework for pixel detector simulation
/ Schübel, A ; Krapohl, D ; Fröjdh, E (CERN) ; Fröjdh, C ; Thungström, G
The output from a hybrid pixel detector depends on the interaction of the radiation with the sensor material, the transport of the resulting charge in the sensor, the pulse processing in the readout circuit and processing of the resulting signal. In order to understand the full behaviour of the device and to predict the performance of future devices it is important to have a framework that can simulate the entire process in the detector system. Design of the analog front-end for the Timepix3 and Smallpix hybrid pixel detectors in 130 nm CMOS technology

This paper describes a front-end for hybrid pixel readout chips, which was developed for the Timepix3 and Smallpix ASICs. The front-end contains a single-ended preamplifier with a structure for leakage current compensation which can handle both signal polarities, and a single-threshold discriminator with compensation for pixel-to-pixel mismatch.
