Development of a second-generation system for the reliable distribution of machine protection parameters / Bolton, Samuel (CERN) ; Blaszkiewicz, Milosz (CERN) ; Colinet, Antoine (CERN) ; Felsberger, Lukas (CERN) ; Guasch-Martinez, Josep (CERN) ; Martin, Christophe (CERN) ; Romera, Iván (CERN) ; Secondo, Raffaello (CERN) ; Uythoven, Jan (CERN)
The Safe Machine Parameter (SMP) system is an electronic hardware-based system which has been an integral part of the LHC’s machine protection strategy since it started operation. Its primary objective is to provide several parameters and interlock signals to critical machine protection users across the LHC and SPS accelerators, whilst prioritizing high reliability and availability. Reliability studies for CERN’s new safe machine parameter system / Blaszkiewicz, Milosz (CERN) ; Apollonio, Andrea (CERN) ; Bolton, Samuel (CERN) ; Colinet, Antoine (CERN) ; Romera, Iván (CERN) ; Secondo, Raffaello (CERN) ; Uythoven, Jan (CERN) ; Wollmann, Daniel (CERN) ; Felsberger, Lukas (CERN)
The Safe Machine Parameter system (SMP) is a critical part of the machine protection system in CERN’s Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS). It broadcasts safety-critical parameters like beam energy, beam intensity, the beta functions and flags indicating safety levels of the beam to other machine protection elements. [...]

Findings of the Physics Beyond Colliders ECN3 Beam Delivery Task Force / Ahdida, Claudia (CERN) ; Bartosik, Hannes (CERN) ; Bernhard, Johannes (CERN) ; Brugger, Markus (CERN) ; Calviani, Marco (CERN) ; Colinet, Antoine (CERN) ; Esposito, Luigi Salvatore (CERN) ; Franqueira Ximenes, Rui (CERN) ; Fraser, Matthew Alexander (CERN) ; Gautheron, Fabrice (University of Patras (GR)) et al.
The ECN3 Beam Delivery Task Force was mandated by the PBC Study Group to assess the technical feasibility of increasing the proton beam intensity to the ECN3 hall of the North Area to satisfy the demands of a compelling set of PBC experimental physics proposals. This report summarises the findings of the Task Force that converge on a technically feasible solution with an implementation timeline that could exploit and build upon the investment already foreseen as part of Phase 1 of the NA-CONS project, and take the SPS complex into a new intensity frontier for Fixed Target physics in Run4..
