Maybe not so cheap....

I've been wanting to add narrow bookshelves to either side of my daughters' window to make a built in daybed look.   I really think that it would maximize the small room and give her some added storage.

Here's the inspiration:

blogged here
Here, I explored the IKEA options.  There is actually only 15 1/2 inches on either side of the bed instead of 16".  That ruled out the Billy bookcases being that they are (a titch) too wide.  The Lack bookcase was too small.  But the Akurum cabinets were just right (ala Goldilocks).  So, I snuck a quick visit to IKEA before my last class.  I ran to the cabinet department!  I found the cabinet itself and loved it!  I found the door style that I wanted!  So perfect!  It was going to work!  So, I found myself a worker and we started to figure out the price.  For two cabinets with doors and only shelves inside plus two siding panels (the side are unfinished melamine) plus two sets of legs and one strip of moulding equals $768 + tax.  Ugh.  Never mind.

Turns out that I have great ideas, just not the money to back them.  This is frustrating.  Back to square one...

IKEA Shelving

Yesterday, I showed you my dream room idea for my daughters tiny space.  There's exactly 16" on both sides of her "daybed" that I would like to fill with shelving.

How about some lack of carpentry skills, poor mans option?  Enter, IKEA.

IKEA Billy Bookcase

Or this kitchen cabinet without doors might work. The doors would be great to help hide clutter if they had enough room to open.
IKEA AKURUM
A little more modern and not as tall option:
IKEA LACK in white

There's even some high cabinets that would work in the bathroom section, although, I'm not to keen on all glass shelves.

Pretty Party

My sister sent me a link to a beautiful little girls tea party.

I wish that I could talk my daughter into something like this for her birthday.  Right now, she's got the idea that she wants to do Laser Tag.  Don't get me wrong, it's good times, but man oh man, this party would be too lovely, magical and sweet.

A fabulous place for a tassel

Ever look at tassels and love them but don't know what to do with them?  Here's a great idea!  I just got an email from the sweet Sherry who won the last tassel giveaway I did.  She wasted no time putting the tassel to good use.  Look how perfect it is decorating her window shelf outside on her covered porch!

I adore it hanging on the window and did you see how cute the birdhouse is above it?  It's like it was meant to be!  See more about it here.

Thanks for sharing Sherry!

Decorating Idea

Cute Erin is the best seasonal decorator that I have ever met. And she's great at sending me pictures of her ideas. I love the way that she is using the Chocolate Bunny tassel in her display. It's simply hung the tassel off of her mantel with her decor anchoring it. Isn't this a new and fun idea?
Love where you have put your tassel?? Send me a picture! I would love to see and it and share with others.

A New Idea - Think Spring Bunny

Tassels don't necessarily have to be hung. They can look just as adorable as can be plopped right down in your decor. Take for example this cute idea of a Valentine's custom cupcake order. Look how cute it looks just sitting by her little tree.
Taking that concept and moving onto spring, this uber cute wood leaping bunny with a pom-pom of tan fringes makes a simple, yet striking spring decor for you or your best buddy.

I adore the way it looks here, looking posh, under a glass cloche. Or try it simply on your bookshelf atop a stack of books or decorative boxes. Place it on your countertop for a dash of sophisticated spring decor. Looks great on your mantel, decorative tables, desk etc. too.

Unexpected places

Only 301 more days until Christmas!!
I'm Kidding.

Yesterdays post on the big pom-poms reminded me of my favorite unexpected place that I decorated with pom-poms.

I had been so busy with the holiday season last year that I realized one day that I hadn't made myself any. So I put a few together and happily went along decorating my home. My brother-in-law gave me these sparkly beaded Christmas trees last year early so I could decorate my shelf with them. (Smart boy, or should I really say, Smart Auntie Megan? {aka Dee!Dee!}) These pom-poms looked perfect on my tree. One of those ah-ha moments that you are so proud of yourself for. Unfortunately for me, they didn't last long since I sold the rest of the tassels to friends and neighbors when they saw them in my house. My goal for next year: keep some for myself!

What to do with your tassel?

While visiting cute Erin house last week to custom make her tassel just right for her house, I was greeted with the cutest winter display in her entry way. I loved the way that she had the snowflake tassel (that she got over the holidays) displayed on her basket. A new idea I had never thought of and I of course love it!!
Sure the basket looks great just by itself, but the little added touch of this festive tassel really transformed the look.

She recently changed her Winter decor for Valentines and sent me a quick picture to show how fun her heart tassel looks on the vase.

This is such a great idea that you can do in your own home too. Tassels just add that little punch to your decor.
